Ten Pinterest Alternatives Worth Checking Out

Pinterest has exploded into the social media world, with more than 250 million monthly users and more than 175 billion pinned images as of September 2018. If you have been living under a rock, Pinterest is a visual bookmarking site where users pin things they find interesting or appealing; the site has also taken on an e-commerce role, as people and businesses can sell things there.

Like many successful innovations, Pinterest has sparked quite a few similar sites, some outright imitators and others that seek to expand the concept in other directions. So if Pinterest isn’t enough or you’re looking for something different, here are ten Pinterest alternatives worth checking out.

Juxtapost

Juxtapost started off as a wider portfolio of the wedding and food images that dominated the early Pinterest. Now it is a significant competitor to Pinterest, offering content just as rich, just as useful and just as pretty to look at as the market leader.

We Heart It

We Heart It is for teen girls and young women. It looks more basic than Pinterest but has a very active population and some pretty good images too, along with gift guides to help with your shopping. It is the community that really makes this one worthwhile but only if you’re in their target demographic.

Dribbble

Dribbble is like a Pinterest portfolio for visual and graphic designers and design professionals. There are thousands of ‘shots’ (Dribbble speak for pins) across just about every category you can think of. It’s a great place to look for inspiration or to find a design professional for a project.

DudePins

DudePins is exactly what it says on the box: a board for men. Pinterest is still largely dominated by women and female-oriented images and DudePins is one for the boys. Fortunately, the site is about much more than trucks, girls and guns! Although there are a lot of trucks, girls and guns.

Manteresting

Manteresting is another guy-oriented Pinterest wannabe but really is mainly about trucks, girls and guns. OK, mainly girls. I looked for other things, but never found much more than thousands and thousands of pictures of attractive women showing off their breasts. I must have spent three hours looking for other content.

FoodGawker

FoodGawker is another self-explanatory name for a food oriented Pinterest. It’s a great place to find new recipes or some fantastic foodie images. Just try not to surf this one at work as what comes out of the vending machine isn’t going to look anything like what you see here!

NotCot

NotCot is a place for people to show off their own unique creations. It’s an interesting site with a funky do-it-yourself vibe.

PearlTrees

PearlTrees is a basic-looking website but is much deeper than you might think. The Trees are contextual, linking different ideas together while pearls are images you think are quite special. It has a lot to offer once you get over the interface.

Hometalk

Hometalk is Pinterest for the home. If you’re looking for inspiration or just some nice pictures of beautiful homes, this is the place to be. It has thousands of pictures across lots of categories and is quite diverse.

Fancy

Fancy is all about cool. Cool products anyway. It’s a board full of niche products and is part marketplace and part pin site. You can buy most, or all of the products on the website in a mix of Etsy and Pinterest. Nicely done too.
