Ten Pinterest Alternatives Worth Checking Out
Pinterest is a visual bookmarking website that has taken the internet by storm. With millions of active users and hundreds of millions of images to browse, it makes surfing a very visual experience. As if avoiding procrastination wasn’t difficult enough!
Like many successful innovations, Pinterest sparked quite a few similar sites. So if Pinterest isn’t enough or you’re looking for something different, here are ten Pinterest alternatives worth checking out.
Juxtapost started off early as a wider portfolio of the usual wedding and food images that characterized the early Pinterest. How it is just as rich, just as useful and just as pretty to look at as the current queen of the crop.
We Heart It
We Heart It is for teen girls and young ladies. It looks more basic than Pinterest but has a very active population and some pretty good images too. It is the community that really makes this one worthwhile but only if you’re their target demographic.
Dribbble is like a Pinterest portfolio for visual and graphic designers. There are thousands of ‘shots’ which is Dribbble speak for pins across just about every category you can think of.
DudePins is exactly what it says on the tin. A board for men. Pinterest is still largely dominated by women and female-oriented images and DudePins is one for the boys. Fortunately, the site is about much more than trucks, girls and guns!
I do so dislike it when people try to make new words mean something by adding ‘man’ or ‘woman’ in front of it. However, Manteresting is another guy-oriented Pinterest wannabe but is mainly about trucks, girls and guns.
FoodGawker is another self-explanatory name for a food oriented Pinterest. It’s a great place to find new recipes or some fantastic foodie images. Just try not to surf this one at work as what comes out of the vending machine isn’t going to look anything like what you see here!
Liqurious is the drinks version of FoodGawker. It is stuffed full of cool cocktails, chilled glasses full of interesting concoctions and pretty glasses. It is the place to go if you’re looking for cocktail inspiration.
PearlTrees is a basic-looking website but is much deeper than you might think. The Trees are contextual, linking different ideas together while pearls are images you think are quite special. It has a lot to offer once you get over the interface.
Hometalk is Pinterest for the home. If you’re looking for inspiration or just some nice pictures of beautiful homes, this is the place to be. It has thousands of pictures across lots of categories and is quite diverse.
Fancy is all about cool. Cool products anyway. It’s a board full of niche products and is part market and part pin site. You can buy most, or all of the products on the website in a mix of Etsy and Pinterest. Nicely done too.
