Plants vs. Zombies Updated

Fans of PopCap’s Plants vs. Zombies franchise were treated to a pair of exciting developments this week. The sequel to the popular strategy game, Plants vs. Zombies 2, now published by EA, has started its rollout on Android after several months as an iOS exclusive, while the original game has finally been updated to support the 4-inch display found on the iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s, as well as the fifth generation iPod touch.

Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defense style game, first released in 2009 for Windows and OS X. It was later ported to iOS in 2010 and quickly became a hit. The sequel, published by EA, was released under a “free to play” model in August 2013. Although met with criticism over EA’s aggressive “freemium” strategy, the game still quickly sailed to the top spot in the App Store.

For fans disillusioned with the new game’s pricing, the update of the original title to support current iPhone displays is a welcomed development. Plants vs. Zombies is currently available from the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store for $0.99. Plants vs. Zombies 2 is free on iOS and will hit Google Play in the coming days.
