Plex, the excellent home media server and client software, is now available on the Google Chromecast. It’s one of the first third-party apps to be offered on Google’s tiny and inexpensive media streaming device since it launched in July.

Available at first only to PlexPass members, Plex on Chromecast requires the latest version of Plex Media Server, released today, and your choice of iOS, Android, or Web-based Plex clients. Users can then queue up and “fling” their media to their televisions via the Chromecast.

In addition to Plex, Google today announced a number of other third-party apps that are now available for Chromecast, including VEVO, Revision 3, and Songza. These join existing options such as Netflix, HBO GO, Hulu, and Pandora. Chromecast users can check out the full list of available apps from the Chromecast Apps page.

The Chromecast is available now and runs about $30. Plex Media Server, desktop client, and web client are all free, while the iOS and Android apps cost $5 each.
