How To Prepare Your Android Wear Watch For Sale

Tired of your old Android Wear smartwatch? Maybe it wasn’t everything you thought it could be? Or, maybe you’re just looking at upgrading to the latest and greatest available today. Suffice to say, you might want to put your Android Wear watch up for sale. After all, having some extra cash to put towards your smartwatch is something that everyone would be happy about!

In this quick guide, we will show you how to backup your smartwatch (whether Android Wear or a Galaxy Watch) as well as factory reset the watch and prepare it for sale. Here’s how.

Data Backup

The first thing we want to do is make sure your Android Wear or Galaxy Watch’s data is backed up. That way, if you choose to get another smartwatch later, you can easily keep all of your data on hand and won’t have to start over from scratch.

For Android Wear

When dealing with an Android Wear smartwatch, you don’t actually have to back up anything. All you have to do is follow the steps to factory resetting the device — your actual data stays on your smartphone. That said, once you reconnect or re-pair your Android Wear smartwatch to your phone, everything should automatically be restored.

Now this does mean that when you get a new smartphone that you choose the option to setup your phone from the latest backup, and not as a new phone. Otherwise you really will be starting over.

For Galaxy Watch

Samsung makes it fairly easy to backup your Galaxy Watch.

  1. On your Galaxy smartphone, open up the Galaxy Wearable app.
  2. Then, tap on the Settings option.
  3. Tap on About Watch and then Backup and restore.
  4. Now, tap on Backup settings.
  5. Finally, you can move the sliders back and forth to choose which data you want to backup. When you’re done selecting that, press the button that says BACK UP NOW.

Keep in mind that if you’re preparing your Galaxy Watch for sale or to give to someone else, we’ll also need to remove the Reactivation Lock off of it. The Reactivation Lock prevents someone from activating the watch on their smartphone in the event that your Galaxy Watch is lost or stolen.

Here’s how to turn it off:

  1. On your Galaxy smartphone, open up the Galaxy Wearable app and select Settings.
  2. Touch the Find My Watch section.
  3. Next, navigate to Set Security Reactivation Lock.
  4. Now, just touch the slider to turn Reactivation Lock off. If you’re turning it on, you will need to enter your Samsung account password.

Factory Reset

Now we’re ready to reset your Android Wear Watch. It’s actually a fairly quick process, and this series of steps should work with almost any Android Wear smartwatch out there.

  1. If the screen is dim, tap to wake up your smartwatch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap the Settings option, represented by a gear icon.
  4. Tap the System section.
  5. Scroll all the way down, and press the option that says Disconnect & reset.
  6. A prompt will appear, asking you to confirm your request. Just press Done.

This will unpair your smartwatch from your smartphone, as well as reset it to it’s factory default settings. If you change your mind and want to reconnect your smartwatch, just pair it up to your phone again and apps will be automatically restored.

On Galaxy Watch

Tizen OS watches — the operating system that almost all of Samsung’s smartwatches are on — are a little different to factory reset, but just as easy.

  1. On your Galaxy Watch, navigate to the Settings section.
  2. Find the General option and tap it.
  3. Scroll to and touch the Reset option and touch Done.

The process is slightly different on Gear Sport and Gear S3 watches:

  1. Find the Settings section and navigate to it.
  2. Tap on the General management section.
  3. Press the Reset Gear option.
  4. When a prompt appears, press Done to confirm your choice.

Clean up

One last thing that you want to make sure you do before you take pictures and put your Android Wear smartwatch up for sale is to clean the device up. You want your smartwatch looking its best to make it more attractive to potential buyers. Not only that, but lower value is usually associated with dirty smartwatches, indicating that they weren’t very well taken care of. Suffice to say, you want to make sure your smartwatch shines before taking those pictures!

You don’t really need any special solution to clean up your smartwatch. Just clean up your watch with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, and that’ll do the trick. You can choose to use an electronics solution if you want to get crazy with it, but it’s far from necessary.

Where To Sell

The best place to sell your Android Wear smartwatch and to get the most value out of it is over at www.swappa.com, an online used electronics marketplace. Swappa is a fantastic place to sell because yes, you will get the most value out of your device, but there’s also low fees and plenty of protections for buyers and sellers. Swappa also doesn’t allow sellers to sell junk, requiring proof that the device works before the listing is approved. It might take longer to sell something on Swappa, but it’s well worth it if you want to try and obtain the full value of your device.

If you can’t or don’t want to deal with Swappa, eBay is another excellent place to post your Android Wear smartwatch device(s). You can have it up for sale in just a couple of minutes, and you’re usually guaranteed a sale within seven days, all depending on the auction/bid style you choose. eBay really is a great way to sell your electronics, just be wary of the high “final value” fees associated with it.

Facebook Marketplace is another decent place that you can sell your Android Wear watch at. Open up your Facebook account, head to the Marketplace section, and list your Android Wear device for sale. Once up for sale, people looking for it can message you and find a time and place to meet to purchase it. Facebook Marketplace is a fantastic way to sell items in this way, and there are no fees; however, keep in mind that Marketplace is most known for people that want to negotiate on price, haggle, and low ball, so be sure to price accordingly.

Closing

As you can see, backing up and resetting your Android Wear or Galaxy smartwatch can be quite a tedious process, but this is to make sure that that person you’re selling your watch to or giving your watch to doesn’t have access to any of your data. It also makes sure that the person that receives your Android Wear smartwatch is able to pair with their smartphone without issue.

By following the steps above, it should only take you a couple of minutes to backup and factory reset your smartwatch for sale.
