How to Record the Amazon Fire Stick Screen

One of the great things about a set top streaming device like the Amazon Fire TV Stick, is access to Amazon’s huge range of purchasable content. You also can watch a wide range of different streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, as well as online services like YouTube, giving you a massive amount of content to binge whenever you want.

The main problem with this, of course, is that unless you’ve bought the content via Amazon Prime, it will eventually be removed in favor of newer shows and movies. Plus, God forbid, your internet ever goes down, you won’t be able to watch anything at all. That’s where recording your screen comes in. You can use external devices to capture what is being shown on the screen, for future offline viewing, so you can always watch what you want to, when you want to.

Why External Recording Is the Best Way to Go

While there are some programs and apps out there that enable you to record directly to your Fire Stick, it’s not really a great idea for two reasons. Firstly, the Fire Stick doesn’t exactly have powerful hardware. Therefore, recording on it can cause it to run much more slowly, meaning you might not get a flawless recording. Secondly, at only 8GB, the amount of space on the Fire Stick is very limited, so you’ll very quickly run out of space for your content.

That’s why we’ve focused on methods that you can use to record to an external drive, be it a USB stick, hard drive, or your computer. That way, you can be sure that you’ve got the space and necessary resources to record everything that you want to capture.

How to Record Your Fire Stick’s Screen – Method 2

If you want more control over what you’re recording, you can use this method instead. You’ll be able to record to your computer, both Windows and Mac, and use the provided software that comes with the card to capture what your Fire Stick is showing on the screen. The setup cost is higher than the first method, however.

You’ll need the following equipment to use this method:

  1. A computer (PC or Mac).
  2. A monitor or TV with an HDMI port.
  3. An HDMI splitter – SOWTECH HDMI Splitter.
  4. An Elgato Capture Card – Elgato Capture Card.

Here are the steps you’ll need to take to record your screen using this method:

  1. Plug your Fire TV Stick into the HDMI input port on the HDMI splitter.
  2. Connect the HDMI output port on the splitter to the HDMI input port on the capture card.
  3. Connect the HDMI output port on the capture card to your TV screen or monitor.
  4. Connect the Micro USB port on the capture card to your computer’s USB port.
  5. Install and run the capture card’s software on your computer.

You can now use the card’s software to record anything shown on the screen by your Fire TV Stick. This method isn’t hugely elegant or cheap, but it’s the most versatile and gives you more control over the files that you produce and the recording process in general.
