How To Share & Repost Videos on Instagram [June 2020]

Instagram is all about telling your personal story. From pictures you post to your feed to videos you post to your Story, Instagram has always been about sharing snapshots of your life with your friends, family, and followers.

But what if you want to repost someone else’s Instagram content in order to share it with your followers?

Unlike other social media apps, like Twitter, Instagram doesn’t encourage users to share other users’ content. In fact, they don’t include any options for sharing posts from your feed to your profile. However, there are ways to get your favorite posts from your feed to your followers.

One easy and popular way of sharing other people’s content is taking a screenshot of the content and sharing it as a new post. However, this isn’t going to help you share your favorite videos. Thankfully, there’s still a way you can get those videos out there. You just need to get a little creative.

So, with that being said, let’s take a look at how you can repost videos on Instagram using a few different methods.

How To Share Videos from Instagram

As mentioned above, there is no way to repost someone else’s Instagram content within the app itself. Unlike Twitter, there is no “Retweet” option or any similar features in Instagram.

However, there are still ways to share another user’s content. By embedding a post, sharing across platforms, sending a Direct Message, or by using a third-party app, you can repost your favorite Instagram videos very easily. Let’s take a look at how you can do it yourself.

Share Across Platforms

Strangely, Instagram may not allow you to repost favorite posts to your Instagram profile, but they do allow you to share favorite Instagram posts to your other social media accounts. Do this by copying and sharing a URL for the post in question. This can be done from either the Instagram app or the desktop site.

Instagram App:

To share posts across platforms with the Instagram app, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the post you want to share. Tap on the options icon.

  2. Tap Copy Link.

  3. Go to the destination of choice.

  4. Tap and hold your finger on the text space to bring up the paste option. Tap Paste.

  5. Share!

Desktop Site:

To share posts across platforms with the Instagram desktop site, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the post you want to share and tap on the options icon.

  2. Tap Copy Link.

  3. Paste this URL into the destination of your choice.

These simple steps allow you to share your favorite Instagram posts with your followers on other social media platforms.

Send a Direct Message

Instagram doesn’t want you to have a bunch of posts under your profile that aren’t really yours. However, they are all for sharing cool content with your friends. They make it easy to share posts via Instagram direct message. Note that this can only be done from the app as direct messaging isn’t available on either the mobile or desktop websites.

  1. Locate the post you want to share. Tap on the message icon.

  2. Tap on a recipient (or recipients).

  3. Tap Send.

If the account is private, only those people with access to the account can actually view the message. This goes for sharing on other social media sites as well. There’s no way to publicly share a private post.

How to Repost on Instagram: 3rd Party Apps

In the age of social media, we now have entire third-party apps dedicated to performing basic functions for specific social media platforms. Some apps make it possible to mass delete posts, some make it possible to more efficiently organize feeds, and some make it possible to repost your favorite Instagram content.

In fact, there are multiple apps dedicated to this last purpose, but they all function similarly. Two, in particular, Instarepost and Repost+ for Instagram, work exactly the same way, and they’re free and easy to use. We used Repost+ for Instagram as an example.

  1. Launch the app and tap the Instagram button.

  2. Tap Open to confirm.

  3. Navigate to the post you want to share, tap the options icon.

  4. Tap Copy Link.

  5. Close Instagram and open the repost app back up. Tap on the post that appears. It should be the one you selected.

  6. Adjust the look of the watermark. You can change the shading and location.

  7. Tap Repost.

Note that you can pay extra if you want the ability to remove watermarks altogether. However, we don’t recommend this. It’s one thing to share cool content from your favorite users. It’s quite another to try and pass someone else’s material off as your own.

There you have it! By using any of these four methods, you can repost videos on Instagram so that you can share your favorite content with your followers.
