How To Save Videos from Twitter

Posted by Arch on October 30, 2018

Since its launch in 2006, Twitter has experienced an amazing degree of growth. Consequently, it is now one of the biggest and most relevant social media platforms in the world. In addition to enjoying the virtually endless stream of short messages dealing with just about every topic imaginable, Twitter users have also grown accustomed to viewing video clips. Covering an equally wide selection of subjects, videos have become an indispensable part of the platform.

As a result, many people wonder if there is an option to download those videos from Twitter and save them for later use. Predominantly, the reason behind this would be the ability to access them at any time, without the need to connect to Twitter. Or go online at all, as a matter of fact. Sometimes, you simply run into a video that strikes your fancy to such an extent that you want to make sure you always have it available.

In this regard, there are both good news and bad. The bad news is that Twitter does not support this feature on its own. This means you will not find the “Save” or “Download” button tucked away in some corner.

However, the good news is that not all hope is lost. Even though Twitter itself may not give you this option, there are third-party resources you can use to achieve the desired effect. The quickest way to do this is using a Windows computer, and this guide will show you how.

Step-by-Step Guide

While you will need to rely on resources other than Twitter to save the videos to your PC, you actually do not need to install any programs – you can handle everything from your browser.

To start, head to Twitter using your preferred browser – it makes no difference which one you choose.

The first step is to find the specific tweet which contains the video you want to save. It’s easier if you log in, but it is actually possible to do this without an account, just in case you don’t have one and are reluctant to create it for whatever reason. If you do not log in, it helps if you use Google to find Twitter’s search page directly, rather than the home page.

Once you find the specific tweet (and with it your video), you just need to copy its link. There are two ways to do this, and they are both simple.

For one, you can access the tweet and copy the URL from the address bar of your browser. One way to get to this screen is to click the timestamp of the tweet once you see it in the search results.

There are other ways to get here, depending on how you found the tweet in question. Either way, you will see the tweet in full screen, and you just need to copy the URL. It is at the top of your browser. Mark it and press Ctrl+C or right-click it and choose “Copy”.

The other way to get the link is to click the little down arrow that appears at the upper right side of the tweet. This will open up a new menu. Once you see it, choose “Copy link to Tweet”.

Now that you have the link, you need to go to a website which will allow you to download the video to your computer. These are the third-party resources we mentioned at the beginning. Be warned that these websites are not affiliated with Twitter, and you are using them at your own risk.

There are several options available in this regard, and a quick Google search will provide you with a list of potential candidates. These websites can sometimes stop working, so you may need to look at more than one. DownloadTwitterVideo and TwitterVideoDownloader are good options as of the time of writing, but it should not be difficult to find an alternative if they become unavailable.

Once you get to any of these websites, you will immediately see the field where you need to enter the link to the tweet. Either right-click the field and select “Paste” or left-click it and press Ctrl+V on your keyboard.

Now, just click the “Download” button. Depending on the website you use, you may get the option to choose the quality of the video, so simply select whichever you want. Wait for a bit and you’re done.

As mentioned, you will need to use a third-party service to save videos from Twitter. But aside from that, the process is straightforward. Simply paste the tweet’s link to the downloader website, and you will have the option to enjoy Twitter videos at your convenience.
