How To See How Many Hours Played on PS4
You might want to show off how dedicated you are to a certain game to your friends. Or perhaps you feel like totaling up all your playtime to see just how much of you’ve have spent playing on your PlayStation 4. No matter why you need that information, it would be nice if there was a straight forward way to access it.
Can You See the Time Played on ps4?
Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t make time tracking easy. There isn’t a way within the system to pull a report of hours played or timestamps for logins. While you can access your public PlayStation profile online via their My PlayStation website, this only tells you what trophies you have earned, how many friends you have, and what they’ve been up to.
There are a few ways to figure out how many hours you’ve played on your PS4, and even when you earned achievements and trophies.
Manage Activity Feed
You can manage what is shared in your activity feed by using the following steps:
- Go to your Sony Account, and log in.
- Click on PSN Privacy Settings.
- Click on Gaming | Media.
- To change who can view your activities, trophies, friends list, what games you own, and more, click on the Edit button next to the one you want to change.
If you have an activity you don’t want anyone to see; you can remove it this way:
- Start your PS4.
- Visit your profile settings
- Select Change Privacy Settings.
- Select Gaming | Media.
- Select Activity
- Select the activity you want to delete.
- Press the Options
Sign up for the PSN Newsletter
One way to sometimes receive info on the hours you have played in total is to sign up for the monthly PlayStation Network newsletter, which will send you regular emails with personalized information and special offers. This information, sometimes, but not always, can include your gaming hours.
To sign up for the newsletter, you’ll need to do the following:
- Go to your Sony Account, and log in.
- Click on Notification Settings
- Click on the tick box
- Click on the Save button
Use PS4 Life/Wrap Up to see How Many Hours Played
At the end of 2018, Sony offered PlayStation users a limited-time service that would inform them of their statistics for the last year. In the US, it was called 2018 Wrap Up, and in the EU, they offered the similar My PS4 Life, both of which told you what games you had spent the most time on, along with other interesting info, in the form of an informative personalized video.
Sadly, as mentioned, this service was only available for around a month, but there’s a good chance that they will repeat that in the future. This is not an ideal solution if you’re in a rush to find out your time played right now, but it is better than nothing. If you’ve subscribed to the PSN newsletter, then you’ll likely be informed if this service, or something like it, comes around again.
How do I Check my Playtime in RDR2 or Other Games?
This method won’t necessarily work for every game that you own, but a lot of games record how long you have spent playing them on the save files. Other games may have a specific feature in the settings or options menus, which tracks your playtime.
Grand Theft Auto 5, for example, has a section in the settings menu the specifically tracks all of your statistics for that save.
Depending on the game, you may not have the option to see all your time played across various saves. So you will have to do a little bit of math to find out your overall hours. Not all games support time tracking, so your mileage may vary.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is another game that doesn’t let you see how time-played directly on the game, but you can get a general idea by tracking trophy time on your Playstation. Just go to the trophy tab on your dashboard, select it, and scroll down until you find the game you want. The first achievement you’ll get when you start the game is “Breakout,” after completing the intro. If you click on that achievement, it will show you the date and time you got it.
All Rockstar games are on the Rockstar Social Club, so if you need to track any Rockstar game, sign up to that website and follow the instructions. You only need to provide your PSN and password.
There is another way you could check the date and time of a PS4 game, and that’s to check your game history.
How do you Check Game History on PS4?
There are a few ways to check game history on your PS4. You may want to check your game history to add up total time played, to see what games you have, or to download another game onto your dashboard.
To directly go to any game that you’ve played, go all the way to the library tab. Locate the app on the far right of the system past your games, Netflix, and PS Store. Once in the app, you can click the “games” tab or the “Purchased” tab. You can see when you purchased the games by clicking them. You can add more apps to this tab at any time by clicking the Playstation Store app. Check out our other article about the best Playstation Apps.
Your trophy list is located on the top bar. Once clicked, you can see information on your games played, as well as their trophy information. You can see what time you got the trophies by clicking them.
If you want to look at your PS4 save data, go to “Setting,” then “Application Saved Data Management,” then “Saved Data” in System Storage. This will show you a breakdown of your time played, and your game history.
As mentioned, you can’t see all saved data for all games, but you can at least know when you downloaded the game on your system. You can also see when your last save/auto-save was.
Time Flies When You’re Having Fun
While it’s a shame that it’s not easier to find out exactly what your statistics directly from the source, there are other ways that you can get that information by use of apps, or end-of-year wrap-ups. After all, it’s always good to know how long you’ve spent playing your favorite games, like Final Fantasy.
