Initiating Contact Is Easy

Sending a message on Match.com is very easy and intuitive. Once you check out someone’s profile you’ll be able to send them a message by using the blue speech bubble.

But don’t hesitate to take that first step. You never know how it might turn out.

1. Go to a user’s profile page.
2. Click the blue speech bubble.
3. Type your message and hit send.
4. Alternatively, click the blue speech bubble next so someone’s mini-profile from your search results.

Keep in mind that Match.com has a tendency of pushing users to communicate with each other. As such, the Message Center is divided into two categories:

1. Conversations

This section contains all conversations you’ve had with people that you’ve matched with or shown some interest in.

2. Filtered Messages

The Filtered Messages section contains messages that you’ve sent to people that haven’t replied and messages sent to you by people that may not have anything in common with you.

There’s also a feature called Missed Connections. This feature is only available if you’re using Match.com from a mobile device and with the geolocation feature turned on.

Although this section of Match.com provides a lot of information regarding people you might have crossed paths with, it won’t filter messages you send, or receive, through this feature into a separate dedicated section. All incoming and outgoing messages will still be filtered into the previously mentioned categories.

Why You Haven’t Heard Back

If you initiated contact with someone you like, it’s a good idea to wait for a reply instead of persisting with more unanswered messages. Besides, keep in mind that there could be other reasons, other than something you’ve said, that prevented that user from contacting you right back.

Maybe the user doesn’t have a paid Match subscription. If that’s the case, the user won’t be able to contact you. You might want to consider taking up the Connect Upgrade offer. This will allow communication between you and free Match.com members that you contact.

How to Delete a Message

Perhaps you’d like to know how to delete messages from your inbox on Match.com. By doing this you’ll be able to organize your inbox better, filter out the unlikely matches, and keep only conversations with people you’re still interested in pursuing.

1. Bring up a conversation.
2. Click on the three dots icon at the top of the conversation box.
3. Click on the Delete this conversation button.

You can also delete conversations in bulk.

1. Go to your My conversations page.
2. Click on the bin icon at the top of the page.
3. Select and delete entire conversations from your inbox.

Note that when using Match.com from a mobile device, the process is the same. You’ll just have to tap the appropriate icons and links on your touchscreen, instead of clicking.
