How To Set Reminders on Facebook

The ability to set reminders using Facebook Messenger definitely falls into the useful Facebook feature category. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, Facebook decided to remove the feature from Messenger. As frustrating as this is for loyal users, there are still ways to set reminders for everyone you want to keep updated on upcoming events.

How To Set Reminders on Facebook

The reminder feature allowed you to set an event reminder which is then sent automatically to all members of a given group.

Since we hope that the option will return one day, let’s go over the instructions on how to set a reminder in Messenger so it’s here when you need it.

Set reminders with Facebook Messenger

The Facebook Messenger in-app Reminder function was so useful and simple to use. If you’re lucky enough to still have the feature follow these instructions:

  1. Open Facebook Messenger.
  2. Select a conversation that includes the group you want to remind.
  3. Tap the ‘+’ icon next to the message text box.
  4. Select ‘Reminders’ from the popup menu. It looks like a bell.
  5. Select ‘Create a Reminder’.
  6. Enter a title, time, date, and an optional location.
  7. Click or tap ‘Create’.

The Facebook Messenger reminder is now set. You can modify it later if you need to and Facebook will automatically update it for all users. When the time comes, Facebook will send a message to everyone in the group to attend the conversation.

Other cool Facebook Messenger tricks

Facebook Messenger is an accomplished little app that has a few tricks up its sleeve that isn’t that well known. Here are just a few of these Facebook Messenger tricks.

Facebook Snapchat (Features)

Facebook Messenger has a neat Snapchat-style image feature that allows you to take a picture and then add smileys, text, or graphics to an image before sending it.

Open a conversation with the person you want to send the image to, take the image, swipe up in the image, and add silly filters to your heart’s content. Send it when you’re finished.

You can also add filters and fun images like bunny ears while on a Facebook video chat. Simply tap the smiley icon in the lower right-hand side to get started.

Facebook Messenger Soccer

Want to play Keepy Up with your buddies? Send a soccer ball emoji to them and tap the ball once they have received it. Keep tapping the ball to keep it in the air. The longer you keep it up, the harder it becomes.

Video conference with Facebook Messenger

Video calling is nothing new but did you know you can hold video conferences with groups? Update Facebook Messenger to the latest version, open a group conversation and tap the phone icon in the blue bar at the top. The video call will begin within a couple of seconds.

Share files from Dropbox in Facebook Messenger

If you want to quickly share work, an image or something else, you can use Facebook Messenger to get this done. As long as you have Dropbox installed on your device, all you need to do is start a conversation with the person you want to share a file with. Then tap More and tap Open next to Dropbox. Browse your files and select the one you want to share. Dropbox is especially well suited for very large files that are difficult to share directly through Facebook Messenger.

Some file types require the recipient to also have Dropbox installed and open but images, videos, and GIFs do not.

Facebook Messenger Basketball Game

If you and a buddy have a few minutes to kill but don’t know what to do, you can have a quick game of hoops while you wait. Send a basketball emoji to the other person and then tap the ball you sent to begin. Swipe the ball towards the hoop. Get it in to score. That’s right, you can play Facebook Messenger basketball, as surprising as that sounds!

Store boarding passes in Facebook Messenger

This final tip is arguably one of the most useful Facebook Messenger tricks if you travel frequently. Some airlines will allow you to use Facebook Messenger to store boarding passes and receive flight information updates. For example, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines use it and I presume other airlines offer similar services using Facebook Messenger.

Select the option when booking, give your Facebook details and the airline will send a link to you via Facebook Messenger. This is very convenient if you’re a frequent flyer and a frequent Facebook Messenger user.
