Sony PS4 Sales Reach 4.2 Million in 2013
Microsoft announced Monday that the company sold over 3 million Xbox One consoles between the November 22nd launch and the end of the year. In response, rival Sony is out today with its own numbers for the PlayStation 4. Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House told the audience during Sony CEO Kaz Hirai’s CES keynote that the company sold “more than 4.2 million” PS4’s as of December 28th.
The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn’t be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network. After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014.
The company also announced software sales for the PS4 of 9.7 million “through the holiday season.” That figure includes both physical retail sales and online PlayStation Store purchases.
The sales figures for both consoles are on the high end of industry expectations, and point to a strong start for this new generation of gaming.
