How To Add Shoes in the Strava App

When you start following other runners on Strava, you will notice that they can add their own shoes to their profiles. With a few simple clicks, you can add your running shoes, too. This way you can manage your gear better.

This article will explain how to add and track your shoes in Strava with a few simple clicks.

Keeping Track of Your Shoes

If you use different shoes for different types of runs, you can track progress, distance covered, and receive email notifications when you reach a certain mileage as a reminder that it’s time to replace your shoes. If you wear the same shoes for a long time you risk getting injured.

Strava allows you to keep track which shoes suited you best and lasted for a long time. At the same time, you can compare them to other runner’s shoes and exchange opinions.

How to Add Shoes

Adding shoes in Strava is easy. You just need to reach the ‘My Gear’ option from your profile’s dashboard. To do this, you should:

  1. Log in to your Strava account via your web browser.
  2. Hover over your profile picture in the top right of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
  3. Click on ‘Settings.’

In the ‘Brand’ section, you can choose your shoe brand. Click on a blank bar and a list of existing brands will appear. If you don’t find your brand on this list, you will have to contact Strava Support so they can include it.

When you choose a brand, you can type in a model of your shoes yourself. The ‘Model’ section is optional.

The ‘Nickname’ section is optional too. This way you can personalize your shoes and set them apart from the rest. When you give your shoes a nickname your followers will also see it.

In ‘Notes’, you can include more information about running shoes. Condition, color, size, maybe even a personal story or how did you get them.

The ‘Notifications’ section keeps you updated about the distance you ran with the shoes. The longer you run with a pair of shoes, the higher the risk of injury.

Even the most quality shoes can break down in the middle of running due to wear and tear. You can set up the app to send you an email after you reach a certain mileage to let you know it’s time for a new pair.

Can I Add Shoes from Mobile App?

Unfortunately, the mobile app does not support adding shoes or gear at the moment. You must log in on your web browser to include new gear. However, you can always include the gear you’ve added before to your new tracks and activities.

  1. Install the Strava mobile app. It is available for both Android and iOS.

  6. When you’re done with running, you can immediately edit your activity via the app.
  7. Find ‘Activities’ above the ‘Gear’ in your profile menu.
  8. Look for your most recent activity and tap ‘Edit Activity’.
  9. Find the ‘Shoes’ section and select the shoes that you’ve used for your latest run. Tap ‘OK’ and then tap ‘Update Activity’.

  10. The app will add the chosen shoes to this run. It will also include the distance and all additional information to your shoes. Strava will immediately alert you if your shoes passed the designated distance.

Keep your Shoe Model Description Short

When you add new shoes you should try and describe your shoe model in the shortest way possible. This way you will avoid confusion when you try to select the shoes from your phone. Since the display is narrow there’s a possibility you won’t see the full name and model.

Try to avoid adding wrong shoes to your activities by writing short and precise model names.
