How to Add Bots to Telegram

Telegram is one of the fastest and most secure messaging apps available. It also has a very well-designed and user-friendly interface. You can sync it across devices and use it to make short videos, send messages, and stickers to your friends.

Adding a Bot on Telegram

Before going further, make sure that you have the updated version of Telegram. You can find it on both Android and iOS. In case you’ve never added a bot on Telegram before, the first thing you need to do is to introduce yourself to BotFather.

Telegram describes this bot as one bot to rule them all. You must use it to create new bot accounts and manage existing ones. So, how do you add the BotFather? Easy, just follow these steps:

  1. Open the Telegram messaging app.
  2. Tap on the search button (magnifying glass in the top right corner).
  3. Type in @BotFather and select.
  4. Tap on “Start” on the very bottom of the screen.

Now you’re done with the biggest part of the job. Once you’ve selected “Start”, you’re well on your way to creating your own bot. This is how that process goes:

  1. BotFather lists all the commands you can use, and the first one is /newbot.
  2. Once you tap /newbot you’ll be prompted to set the name of your bot. Make sure that the name ends with -bot. Example: if your bot’s name is John, it would be Johnbot or John_bot.
  3. You will receive a token to access bot’s HTTP API. Make sure to keep it secure and store it safely.

It will require some knowledge in coding to get your bot working. You can do it yourself, or ask someone to do it for you. You can get Bot Code examples on Telegram and see if you can figure it out.

How to Add Bot

Differentiating Bots from Humans

You can tell the difference between humans and bots in Telegram easily. Bots don’t have an online status and no “last seen” stamps. Also, the interface shows the label “Bot”. In addition, bots have limited Cloud storage which means that older messages will be removed quickly by the server.

Another important distinction is that bots can’t start a conversation with humans. You have to either add them to a group or be the one to send them a message first. The reason why they’re added to groups is to make the conversations flow better.

You get tons of notifications from external sources, which can be particularly helpful with work-related groups. You can ensure that some information stays encrypted by running the bot in Privacy Mode. A bot with privacy mode enabled won’t receive all messages that people send to the group.

Making Bots Do Good

The word “bot” oozes with a negative connotation, mostly down to their malicious use on social media. But bots are only as good as their creators. A chatbot can make a conversation livelier and remind people of something they wanted to talk about. Telegram is a great place to explore the possibilities of bots. Now you know how to add them, you can also create your own if you’re up to the task.
