How To Tell if Someone Has Tinder Plus
After writing about Tinder last week, I was asked it was possible to tell if someone has Tinder Plus and if it was any good or not. I am only too happy to oblige both questions with answers!
Tinder has changed dating forever. For some it has made life easier and meeting someone special much less stressful. For others, it has made hooking up a numbers game. A game that works for everyone as Tinder is a completely level playing field.
What is Tinder Plus?
So what it Tinder Plus? It is the premium part of the dating app. Whereas the standard Tinder is free to use, Tinder Plus costs money, currently $9.99 a month if you are under 30 or $19.99 a month if you are over 30. Yep, that’s right, the older you are, the more you pay.
As someone who is over 30, this obviously annoys me. You don’t get more for your extra $10 a month. You don’t get put to the front of the queue, you don’t get more features and you gain no advantage whatsoever over younger users. It smacks me as completely unfair, but it is what it is.
Is Tinder Plus worth the money?
So what do you get for your money? As a Tinder Plus user, you receive unlimited swipes per day, the ability to rewind your swipes if muscle memory took over when you didn’t want it to, no advertising, the option to change your location and look for global matches and the ability to Super Like five times per day as opposed to once per day as a free user.
You also get to hide your age, control who sees your profile and a neat Passport feature to hook up when you’re on vacation. There is also something called Boost but I don’t know much about it as I haven’t used it and Tinder doesn’t tell you much. Just that it puts your profile card close to the top of people’s queue for 30 minutes.
Is it worth it? That is a subjective question that is dependent on how much you plan on using it and where you live. If you live in a big city with hundreds or thousands of Tinder users and use it often, it has value. If you live somewhere with a more limited number of Tinder users or are an occasional user, maybe not so much.
That is unless you’re willing to travel to meet people. If you work on the road or travel a lot, the Passport feature allows you to save up to four locations and check on who is around at each. That could certainly have advantages for lots of people other than truck drivers.
How to tell if someone has Tinder Plus
Can you tell if someone has Tinder Plus? There are only two ways I know of telling if someone has Tinder Plus.
- You don’t see their age.
- They are far away or there is no geographical location attached to their profile.
As far as I know, these are the only two ways to tell if a user has Tinder Plus or not. Standard users cannot hide their age and can only search locally to them. Plus users have the option to hide their distance from you so they can use Passport.
Does Tinder Plus get you more matches?
The question everyone wants to know before subscribing to Tinder Plus is whether they will get any more matches or not. The short answer is no. While membership makes managing the app easier, which may help you hook up more, it will not make you more attractive.
You might argue that the Boost function, if it works, increases your chances of being swiped right, but if your profile isn’t up to scratch, it isn’t going to help. As far as anybody can tell, it doesn’t improve your ELO-score or increase your attractiveness profile within Tinder at all.
As far as I am concerned, a good profile is the only way to increase your chances of getting a match. That means good quality images with a smiling face and supporting images, an amusing or interesting bio and the ability to say more than ‘Hi’ when talking to someone. These are the elements that will get you success on Tinder, not paying for a premium service.
Tinder Plus can be worthwhile if you are under 30 and live in a big metro area. For everyone else, it is purely down to what you want from the platform. Do you use Tinder Plus? Do you find the cost worthwhile? Tell us about it below!
