How To Tell if Someone Has Tinder Plus
Tinder has changed dating forever. For some it has made life easier and meeting someone special much less stressful. For others, it has made hooking up a numbers game–a game that works for everyone, as Tinder is a completely level playing field. But like our culture, Tinder itself is forever changing. Since its release, it has been adding and removing new features, constantly testing to see what can grow its revenue while serving its users. One of those features is called “Tinder Plus.”
What do you get with Tinder Plus?
Tinder Plus users get a smorgasbord of upgrades, including:
- Unlimited right swipes every day
- The ability to “rewind” if muscle memory took over when you didn’t want it to
- The ability to turn off advertising
- The option to change your location to anywhere in the world
- Five free Super Likes per day (as opposed to one per day as a free user)
You also get to hide your age and control who can see your profile. There is also a featured called Tinder Boost, which makes your profile the top profile in your area for 30 minutes, helping you to get more matches. Tinder Plus users get 1 free Boost every month. Tinder Plus won’t be for everyone, but for those who are truly serious about dating, it’s an obvious boon to your profile.
How much is Tinder Plus?
Tinder plus is the “premium” part of the dating app. Standard Tinder is free to use, but Tinder Plus is costs money. It is currently $9.99 a month if you are under 30, and $19.99 a month if you are over 30. Yep, that’s right: The older you are, the more you pay. You don’t get more for your extra $10 a month. You don’t get put to the front of the queue, you don’t get more features and you gain no advantage whatsoever over younger users. However, there are huge discounts if you pay biannually or yearly: six months is only $5.83 per month, and 12 months is only $4.58 per month, if you’re under 30.
Does Tinder Plus get you more matches?
The question everyone wants to know before subscribing to Tinder Plus is whether they will get any more matches or not. In short, maybe. Membership makes managing the app easier, which may help you become more efficient with talking to matches, meeting people, and hooking up. The Boost function can also get you in front of far more people, increasing your chances of being swiped right. But if your profile isn’t up to scratch, then Tinder Plus isn’t going to help. Though Tinder stopped using their controversial Elo score in March of 2019, matches are still arranged based on specific likes in terms of who each user is swiping towards, and that means you’ll need to have a great profile to get matches. That means good quality images with a smiling face and supporting images, an amusing or interesting bio and the ability to say more than “Hi” when talking to someone. These elements may get you even more success on Tinder than paying for a premium service.
How to tell if someone has Tinder Plus
Can you tell if someone has Tinder Plus? There are only two ways of telling if someone has Tinder Plus.
- You cannot see their age on their profile.
- They are far away or there is no geographical location attached to their profile.
Standard users cannot hide their age, and can only search locally to them. Tinder Plus users have the option to hide their distance from you by using Passport.
Is Tinder Plus worth it?
Is it worth it? That depends on how much you plan on using Tinder and where you live. If you live in a big city with hundreds or thousands of Tinder users and use it often, Tinder Plus can be a huge boost to your game. If you live somewhere with a limited number of Tinder users or are an occasional user, then you might not find it worth your money.
There is an exception, though: if you’re willing to travel to meet people. If you work on the road or travel a lot, the Passport feature allows you to save up to four locations and check on who is around at each. That could certainly have advantages for people who are mobile a lot.
Tinder Plus can be worthwhile if you are under 30 and live in a big metro area. For everyone else, it is purely down to what you want from the platform. Do you use Tinder Plus? Do you find the cost worthwhile? Tell us about it below!
Tinder Plus… but Better
Tinder has introduced another premium package called “Tinder Gold.” It includes all of the features of Tinder Plus, and adds one more: “Likes You.” Subscribers to Tinder Gold can see whether or not someone has swiped right on them before they swipe right. Tinder Gold is a flat $4.99 a month (in addition to the fees for Tinder Plus).
But unlike Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold provides some serious extra matches. Tinder has said that during testing, Tinder Gold users received 60 percent more matches than standard users. If you’re looking to up your matching game, this is one feature you might want to swipe right on.
