How To Record Without Holding in TikTok

TikTok is the hottest new video sharing platform on the market right now, and it’s got everyone wanting to try and make their own music snippets with the app. You’ve no doubt seen the advertisements, users seemingly creating perfect musical clips, and without holding onto their phone to film. How do they do that? How do they record a TikTok without holding the record button? Well, it’s actually quite easy.

If you follow along with us below, we’ll show you step by step on how you too can record your own TikTok clip without holding that record button. Let’s dive right in.

Record without holding

First open up TikTok on your iPhone or iPad. It’s the app with the white music icon across a black background on your phone or tablet’s home screen. And if you don’t have it, you can grab it for free from the App Store.

After TikTok is open, press the + button at the bottom part of the screen. Next, you’ll want to position your iPhone or iPad in the correct position for recording. You can put it up on a tripod, or stand it against an object so that the viewfinder is in the desired position.

Once you have the positioning figured out, we’ll want to tap on the Timer button. This should be at the bottom of the icon list on the right-hand side of the display.

Next, you’ll see a wave motion appear. You can drag the line to the position where you want the recording to automatically stop. It will automatically stop recording you after it hits that set point, but only after you press the Start Countdown button.

Finally, press the Start Countdown button. This will countdown from 3…2…1…to give you time to get into position for the recording, and then will record for the amount of time you set in the previous step. Once you’re happy with your video, you can press the checkmark at the bottom right of the screen, and than edit your video and add any effects you’d like.

Once you’re finished with that, you can post your clip to the TikTok platform by tapping on the Post button.

What about tap to shoot?

TikTok also has an option called Tap To Shoot, but it’s not available in all regions where TikTok is available. That said, you may or may not see this feature yourself, but it’s quite easy to use if you do have it.

As we previously outlined, open up the TikTok app on your iPhone or iPad. Again, if you don’t have it, it can be downloaded for free from your app store of choice. Then, click on the + button at the bottom of the screen.

You’ll next want to get your iPhone or iPad in the correct position for recording. You’ll want to line up the viewfinder with the area that you plan to record in. You can use a tripod for this, or set your iPhone or iPad up against a random object.

Now, this is where the process differs — instead of pressing the Timer button, we’ll change the Recording Mode. This can be changed by moving the slider at the bottom of the viewfinder — set it so that it says Tap to shoot. You can return it to Long-press to shoot by moving the slider again.

Once you have it set to Tap to shoot, just press the record button. TikTok will then record the video until you tap the button again to stop the recording. Once you’re done recording, tap the button again to stop, and then press the checkmark button at the bottom right corner of the screen to move to the finishing steps.

Just like earlier, we can add different effects, covers, and filters to make the video unique. Once you’re done, press the Next button, and then tap on Post to post it to your TikTok profile.

Closing

And that’s all there is to it! As you can see, it’s quite easy to record a TikTok video without holding onto your phone or the recording button. It can be a little complicated to shoot the perfect TikTok, but after a couple tries, you’ll be a pro in no time! Even if the Tap to shoot option isn’t available in your region, it doesn’t take long to get used to using the regular timer.
