How to Turn Off Crunchyroll Ads

Isn’t it annoying when video platforms like YouTube and DailyMotion litter your viewing experience with advert after advert? Well, strap yourself in for Crunchyroll because they have taken unwanted adverts to a whole new level.

Not only do you have to watch as much as ten minutes of adverts per 30-minute show, but they have also figured out some way to make the advert volume much louder than the actual video content, which makes the adverts all the more annoying. Here are just a few ways you can remove or turn off Crunchyroll ads.

Can I Buy the Premium Service?

Let’s say you have been using the premium service from 2015 to maybe 2019. If so, you will have noticed a few changes. You will have noticed how you used to have to watch a single advert before each video. Over time, you will have noticed that a new advert now appears in the middle of each episode too.

By 2017 you notice that there are usually four adverts littered around the videos, and by 2019 you notice things have become inconsistent. Some shows seem to be littered with adverts, and some are not. These days, the only benefits to having a premium subscription (besides access to premium shows) are that some adverts are absent, you can skip the longest adverts, and you do not see advert repeats.

What are the advert repeats? That’s the phenomenon whereby a Crunchyroll user may see the same advert as many as four times through each video sitting, and in some cases, they appear one after the other. It happens when the Crunchyroll system cannot read your cookies or doesn’t have your preferences, so it shows you the same cheapest adverts over and over again to fill their advert spots.

Crunchyroll Says That Premium Users Do Not See Adverts

What Crunchyroll means is that many of the adverts the free users see will not be displayed during your service, but that is not always the case. For example, direct sponsorship will appear on your premium account, and that same direct sponsorship will appear on your free account.

Plus, if the adverts were not annoying enough, there is something worse…anime trailers. The problem with anime trailers, especially on Crunchyroll, is that they give away spoilers. Even the plot hints are not vague enough.

For example, if a character is shot in one episode, and then the trailer for the next shows a funeral with all his or her friends surrounding it, then it doesn’t take much deduction to figure that the character doesn’t survive the gun shot; even if the trailer doesn’t show the name on the grave.

Is Paid Ad-Blocking the Way?

In general, you should stay away from paid blockers and stick with free blockers that come with your apps or your web browsers. That’s because an ad-blocker is only as good as its last update. In many cases, online video portals have teams of programmers working on updates that nullify ad-blockers, so there is always somewhat of a technological war between ad-blocking companies and video streamers.

Nevertheless, there is a valid reason to buy some ad-blockers if they are especially good at their job. For example, buying a Crunchyroll premium subscription will let some adverts slip through, but those adverts are usually telegraphed in a way that lets ad-blockers easily pick them out. In short, premium users may find that their ad-blocker software is more effective.

The other reason to buy ad-blocking software is if you are using it on more than one website or app. As mentioned earlier, the adverts on YouTube can get very frustrating, and the adverts on DailyMotion are so frequent that they are almost insulting.

So, if you were to buy a third-party ad-blocker that worked on your favorite video streaming sites, then maybe it would be a good investment. Buying it for Crunchyroll seems as if you would not be getting good value for money.

Crunchyroll Ads Be Gone!

There’s no way to banish all Crunchyroll ads. All you can do is dramatically reduce the number of adverts you see with the Crunchyroll premium and then use an ad-blocker.

True, you may find scores of YouTube videos on how to fix this issue. However, Crunchyroll’s team’s seen them too, and they’re probably already one step ahead of you. So, the premium account and ad-blocker combo remains the best way to minimize the number of ads you see
