Kindle Fire devices from Amazon are amazing, but they’re not flawless. They have some known issues that are still unresolved by Amazon – which seems odd. Unfortunately, you can’t do much about them.

How to Turn Off the Kindle Fire Startup Sound

The issue with the Kindle Fire startup sound is one of those that are tricky to solve. You simply can’t find the setting for turning the startup sound off. Keep reading and find out how you can make that and some other sounds quieter.

Also, discover some tips for making your Kindle Fire quieter in general. This will help you relax and unwind in your spare time.

Why Quiet Is Important When Using Kindle Fire

Amazon may not realize that Kindle Fire users generally don’t like loud sounds. Imagine reading in a library, and all of a sudden, you hear a burst of noise? The same applies to many other life situations, where silence is appreciated.

If you’re reading, watching TV, listening to music, or even gaming on your Kindle Fire, you don’t want to hear noise. There are some sounds you can turn off, however. For example, notification sounds. The Kindle Fire has an option to enable quiet time.

After all, Amazon isn’t so ignorant. We’ll get to the quiet time soon, but let’s discuss the startup sound first, since it’s the main topic of this article. This sound doesn’t have a direct disable option. Maybe Amazon will address this issue in the future.

However, you can reduce the volume of many sounds on your Kindle Fire, including the startup sound. Read on to find out how.

Kindle Fire Sound and Notifications

Kindle Fire is actually very customizable. You can customize many sounds and notification settings. Go into settings (gear icon). Scroll down all the way to the Personal tab. Here you’ll find the sound and notifications menu.

Notice how many different types of volumes you can adjust. Set the Media Volume, Alarm Volume, System and Notification Volume as you please. Actually, the startup sound of your Kindle Fire falls into the last category, System and Notification Volume.

If you move the slider entirely to the left, you can mute the volume. Voila, no more annoying startup sound every time you start your Kindle Fire.

You can tinker with other sounds and notifications in this menu. There’s actually a Do Not Disturb, or quiet mode depending on the version of Kindle Fire you have.

Kindle Fire Quiet Time

Since you’re already looking for ways to make your Kindle Fire quieter, here’s a perfect option for you. Quiet Time is a great new addition to Kindle Fire devices. It helps with making a quiet time schedule when you don’t want to be disturbed.

Older devices have it as Do Not Disturb, but it’s essentially the same thing. You can even choose the individual notification settings for different apps here. You can get notification sounds, or get banner style notifications, which will inform you about events in text form.

You can either manually enable quiet time when you want it on, or you can set up a schedule. You can turn it on when doing different activities, like watching TV, reading books, magazines, or newspapers, listening to audiobooks or mp3s, or even browsing Silk.

Setting up quiet time schedules is useful for many situations, such as nap time, quiet practice, studying in the library, etc. Loud notifications are very distracting, but you don’t have to put up with them. Now you know how to disable sounds entirely.

Repeating Startup Sound Issue

Some Kindle Fire users have reported issues about the startup sound repeating over and over again. That sounds awful, but it can be fixed. An official Amazon Staff employee replied to a ticket regarding this issue on the official Amazon forum.

They said the best way to fix the issue is to restart your Kindle Fire device. You can also use the notification settings which were previously explained and try muting the sound there. If you still have the same problem, feel free to contact Amazon support yourself to ask for help.

In case the problem persists, you can probably ask for a replacement Kindle Fire device.

Peace and Quiet

Modern times are very stressful and gadgets like Kindle Fire can add to the stress. If you dislike notification sounds, set up a quiet time schedule, or simply mute all sounds. This will give you the peace and quiet you deserve.

Nobody likes being interrupted while they read, watch TV or listen to music. You don’t have to put up with that anymore. If you have any additional questions or thoughts, feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
