How To Use Hotspot On Samsung Galaxy S9

The Mobile Hotspot function on the Samsung Galaxy S9 makes use of the battery life and data network service. The ability to use your phone as a beacon of the portable Wi-Fi hotspot to share the Internet connection with multiple devices, your PC, and any supporting devices is an incredible experience.

If you have a tethering plan on your account and you want to learn how to use the Mobile Hotspot, this blog is all you need to perform this operation successfully.

First, you need to turn on Mobile Hotspot

If this feature is not activated on your smartphone, no device can connect to your Mobile Hotspot. The first and most important lesson is to understand how to turn the Mobile Hotspot on your Galaxy S9 On or Off by doing the following.

  1. Turn on your smartphone and access the Home screen
  2. Open the Apps menu
  3. Scroll to the Settings icon
  4. Click on Settings
  5. Click on the “Mobile Hotspot and Tethering” option
  6. Tap Mobile Hotspot
  7. Toggle to On and Off and back On

Note that if you activate the Mobile Hotspot without setting any passwords, your data is vulnerable as it can be accessed by any device.  This brings us to the latter part of this tutorial.

Second, Configure the Mobile Hotspot settings

If you want to connect the newly activated Mobile Hotspot with another device on the Galaxy S9, you will have to configure the Wi-Fi settings of the second device. After doing that, you can proceed with the instructions below.

  1. Slide the notification panel from the top of the screen
  2. Activate the Wi-Fi by clicking the corresponding icon
  3. Start scanning for nearby Wi-Fi hotspots
  4. Click on your Galaxy S9 proves it’s customized device name from the resulting list
  5. Type the password for the Mobile Hotspot, and it will connect immediately

Third, Discover the Allowed Device list

As long as a device is a part of the Allowed Devices list, it will automatically connect to your smartphone data whenever your Mobile Hotspot is on. The Allowed Devices list is simply a list of devices that have an automatic connection with your Hotspot.

Keeping your Mobile Hotspot on means, you are using your mobile data. And the devices that connect to your hotspot, as well as your Galaxy S9, will continue to use up data.

The devices that require an internet connection to operate will tap into the mobile data on your Galaxy S9.

When traveling to a foreign country, the latter aspect can be particularly worrying as roaming charges can be exceptionally high. To combine the roaming option with your Mobile Hotspot activation, you have to navigate through the Mobile Hotspot and Tethering menu, activate the Hotspot option and then click on the MORE option.

Under the Allowed Devices lost, use the ADD menu to input the device name for the smartphone you want to connect to your Galaxy S9 Mobile Hotspot and MAC address. Hit the OK button when through and exit the submenus back to the Home screen.
