Wyze Cam Cannot Find the Specified Network Name - What to Do

The Internet of Things is becoming a more and more integrated part of our lives. Any tech lover will be happy to share with you how they’ve hooked up everything in their house to be voice controlled, from their fridge, to their espresso machine, and even their window blinds. Keeping an eye on all these high-tech goodies is also easier than ever, thanks to nifty smart cameras like the Wyze Cam.

Most of the time, they work well out of the box. But sometimes, either thanks to a dodgy update or a simple error, you can have issues connecting your gear to your Wi-Fi network. Here’s a quick guide on what you can do to try and get your Wyze Cam connected again.

Make Sure It’s Connecting to the Right Network

These days, many modern routers provide two simultaneous Wi-Fi signals, one in the 2.4 GHz bandwidth, and one in the 5 GHz bandwidth. 2.4 is the standard that most devices have been using for many years. That’s mostly because it is able to travel farther, ensuring a stronger signal at longer distances. 5 GHz Wi-Fi is a lot quicker, but the signal is a lot more susceptible to degradation at longer ranges.

Sometimes, your Wyze Cam will default to connecting to your router’s 5 GHz network rather than the 2.4 GHz one. If you check the available Wi-Fi networks in your house, and you see one that has “5g” or “5 GHz” at the end of it, then chances are this is the problem. Check on your Wyze app that your camera is connected to the 2.4 GHz network, and it will probably fix the issue.

Check Your Spelling

It’s also worth double checking that the name of the network and the password that you’ve entered are both spelled correctly. Keep in mind that passwords are case sensitive, so “PASSWORD” won’t work if it’s actually spelled “password.”

Another potential cause for the issue could be if there’s a space at the start or the end of the name of your Wi-Fi network. For example, if your network is called “ My Network” or “My Network “ (note the spaces) then your camera might not be able to connect to them. You’ll need to go into your router’s settings to remove the space or spaces, or contact your internet service provider to get them to do it for you.

Reset Your Devices

On many digital devices, issues can crop up over time. Restarting or resetting them can help to clear up any bugs in the system. Try turning your router off for 15 seconds, and then switching it back on again. Go into the internet settings on your phone, tell it to forget your Wi-Fi network, restart it, and then reconnect to the network. Make sure you’re connecting to the 2.4 GHz one.

Move the Camera Closer to the Router

This is not exactly an ideal solution if you’ve got a very specific spot that you want to use your camera in. However, this can help you determine if the camera is able to connect to the network at all, or if there is something wrong with its Wi-Fi radio components. If it will connect when you’re near the router, then your Wi-Fi signal isn’t strong enough where you’re planning on placing it.

If this is the case, you can try boosting the power of the signal, or changing the channel that it is broadcasting on. This can be especially helpful if there are lots of other Wi-Fi networks in your area, as they can sometimes be on the same channel and so competing for the airwaves. Otherwise, you’ll either have to choose a new spot for your camera, or look into buying a Wi-Fi signal booster to help get your network where you need it.

Replace the Camera

If you’ve tried everything else, and the camera still won’t connect to your Wi-Fi network, then there’s a good chance that there’s a hardware issue with it. Contact Wyze customer support team and they will help you fix the problem.
