A Few of the Best Youtube Challenges - July 2017

When most people think of YouTube challenges, they think of the infamous Cinnamon Challenge. This challenge is, incidentally, older than the video website itself, having been talked about online as early as 2001. That’s nearly two decades of teaspoons of cinnamon making people cough, cry, and even vomit.

We mention it here because it was this challenge that arguably inspired the YouTube challenge movement, giving us hours of hilarious and often disgusting content. However, we do not recommend the Cinnamon Challenge which has shown to have some rather serious side effects for otherwise healthy YouTubers. We won’t go in to too much detail here save to say that if you value your lungs, you’ll pass on this one. Thankfully, there are plenty of other challenges that are definitely safer and probably more fun.

Food Challenges

While we’re on the subject of food, let’s explore some challenges that are guaranteed to make you laugh and gross you out without hurting your insides in the process.

The Ghost Pepper Challenge

If you are still bent on proving your culinary virility by forcing yourself to eat something that just flat out shouldn’t be eaten, then consider this challenge. It might make you cry and throw-up, but there are no stated health issues associated with it.

  1. Find a ghost pepper (one of the hottest in the world).
  2. Eat the ghost pepper.
  3. Wonder what on Earth convinced you this was a good idea.

Chubby Bunny Challenge

Was the ghostpepper too much for you? Interested in something a little less nauseating? The Chubby Bunny Challenge is cute, competitive, and, well, still a little gross.

  1. Put a marshmallow in your mouth.
  2. Try to say, “chubby bunny.”
  3. If you’re successful, put another marshmallow in there and try again.
  4. Repeat until you can’t say, “chubby bunny” anymore.
  5. If you did this with a partner, see who got the most marshmallows.

Eat It or Wear It Challenge

If competitive is really your thing, but you’re still interested in eating something gross, this might be the challenge for you. You have to do it with a partner. Otherwise you’re just eating the world’s worst dinner for everyone to see.

  1. Put a bunch of random food into numbered bags. Better yet, have someone else do it for you.
  2. Choose a numbered bag at random.
  3. Look inside and decide whether to eat or wear the food item. This means you have to either eat a mouthful or let the other person dump it on your head.
  4. Once all of the bags are gone, the person wearing the smallest number of food items is the winner.

Game Challenges

If you liked that last one and you want some more competitive ideas that don’t require you to eat literal dog food, consider some of these popular YouTube games.

Say Anything Challenge

This one may sound like a piece of cake, but we assure you it’s harder than you think. You can do it in one round or in a series of rounds with a scoreboard for tracking your progress.

  1. Say a word. Seriously, just say any word that comes to mind.
  2. Your partner now has just a second or two to say another word. They can say any word at all as long as it hasn’t already been said.
  3. Go back and forth until one of you either hesitates too long, says something that isn’t really a word, or repeats a word that either of you said in that round.

Speed Drawing Challenge

We’ve seen this one done in a handful of different ways but the seemingly most popular version of the game is outlined below.

  1. Pick your drawing judges. These could be friends, family, or your YouTube subscribers.
  2. Agree on what to draw and a time limit for drawing it.
  3. Set the clock and start drawing. It helps to have a camera on everyone’s page if you can swing it.
  4. When the time is up, compare drawings. Let the judges vote to decide the winner.

Silly Challenges

Maybe you’re not much of a competitive person and you’re just looking for something irreverent and goofy. You could make these challenges competitive if you want to, or you can just have fun.

Try Not to Laugh

Challenge your funny bone with this amusing game. All you need to do is watch hilarious YouTube or Vine videos and pretend that they aren’t the funniest things you’ve seen all week.

  1. Keep your camera trained on your face as you try not to laugh at the chosen video(s).
  2. If you want an extra challenge, fill your mouth with water before watching. Don’t spit the water out.

Whisper Challenger

This is basically the YoutTube version of telephone. You know, that game you and your classmates played as a 4th grade ice breaker. As it turns out, this game is fun for adults too.

  1. This challenge takes two people. One person puts on noise cancelling headphones or earplugs.
  2. The other person says something of their choosing. It could be song lyrics, a movie quote, or just an ordinary sentence.
  3. The person with the headphones on tries to read the lips of the person speaking.
  4. They repeat the phrase and hilarity ensues.

Blindfold Makeup Challenge

This is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. If you’re not afraid to waste a little makeup and get a little messy, then this challenge could be a lot of fun.

  1. Find a partner and a boatload of makeup.
  2. Blindfold yourself and attempt to put the makeup on your partner.
  3. Admire your handiwork.
  4. Repeat, letting them do the same to you.

Challenges for Charity

Really, we’re talking about one “challenge for charity” in particular. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge made huge waves when it came on the scene in 2014. According to the ALS Association, it helped them raise over $115 million for research into ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s Disease) just by generating awareness and popularizing the cause. In truth, not many other charities have followed suite and taken advantage of the internet community. But that doesn’t mean you can’t involve your favorite charity or cause in your YouTube challenge event.
