How to Watch Recorded Shows on YouTube TV

YouTube TV is a relatively young streaming service, but it has some significant advantages compared to its competitors.

How to Watch Recorded Shows on YouTube TV

It offers unlimited DVR storage, which means you can record hours and hours of your favorite movies and shows. This is possible thanks to the cloud, the online storage space, where YouTube TV keeps all recorded content.

This article will guide you through DVR use and teach you how to manage your recorded shows.

How Do I Access My Recordings?

YouTube TV does the recording part a bit differently. Shows and movies aren’t actually recorded but added to your library. You can easily access the library from the main page when you log in to your account.

Once you add a program, you’ll be able to watch it for the next nine months. To view a recording, you only need to click or tap it. If there’s something wrong with the recording, you can report it.

This is what you need to do:

  1. You’ll see the three dots with the More menu under the video you’re trying to watch.
  2. Select it and choose Report recording from the list.
  3. Choose the problem and click on Submit.

It’s worth mentioning that the show will be recorded each time it airs. That’s why it’s good that the DVR is unlimited since you can’t remove a program from the library. You can only stop the next airings from being recorded and wait for the nine months to expire.

If you didn’t manage to start recording an episode of your favorite TV show from the beginning, don’t worry. When there’s a rerun, the episode will be automatically re-recorded. This new recording will replace the old one, and you’ll be able to watch the whole episode.

What Programs Can I Record?

There are no restrictions related to program recording. The only thing you can’t record is a single episode of a TV show. If you choose to record a show, YouTube TV will save all the upcoming episodes as they air, until you decide to stop recording.

You can record anything airing on YouTube TV: shows, sporting events, movies, and more. When you select your Library tab, you’ll find all your recordings listed there. This feature doesn’t depend on free space on your device – you only need an internet connection.

If there’s a change in the agreements YouTube TV has with their partners, the shows recorded in your library may be removed. However, live TV recordings will stay there for nine months.

How to Add a Program to the Library

Follow these instructions to add a show to your library:

  1. Find the video you want to record using the search bar.
  2. You’ll see a plus icon next to the desired video.
  3. Click or tap this icon to add the show to your library.

When you’re adding a program from your mobile device, you can also do it by tapping the screen and holding until a menu appears. From this menu, choose to add the selected show to the library.

If you want to stop recording a particular program, go to its main page and tap or click on the Remove button next to the program title.

What Can I Do with the Recorded Programs?

Once you’re recording programs and saving them in your library, you can do the following:

  1. Watch the show from the start.
  2. Keep watching the show after you’ve paused it.
  3. Watch a show that’s going live if you don’t want to watch the ads.
  4. Sort your recordings based on the title, popularity, rating, and more.
  5. Adjust the video quality settings to make sure there’s no buffering.

Some leagues and devices also have the stats & key plays feature. Are you into sports but don’t have the time to watch the whole game? You may appreciate this option and view only the most important plays from a particular match. When you’re recording a sports game, there’s a 30-minute extension for each recording for situations when a game runs long. Other programs have a minute-long extension.

The Library tab also has this convenient feature called Scheduled Recordings. If you tap it, you’ll be able to see all the upcoming episodes and shows your DVR is ready to save.

Watch Your Favorite Shows Anytime

The unlimited DVR is undoubtedly one of the biggest selling points for YouTube TV. Recording anything anytime can be really tempting, especially if you’re nowhere near a screen when you’re favorite show is airing new episodes. Moreover, recording programs and watching them on any device can’t be easier.
