Have you ever sat in an important business meeting and thought: “If only I was able to record this so I can watch it one more time.”
With Zoom, it’s possible to do just that! You can record any meeting, watch it later, and take comprehensive notes. In this article, we’re going to show you how to record a Zoom meeting both on your PC and your smartphone.
Before We Start…
If you’re not a host, you won’t be able to record a meeting unless you have permission to do so. Therefore, we suggest you reach out to the host before the meeting starts and ask them to enable this option. It takes only a few clicks and it can have multiple benefits for the whole team.
How to Record a Zoom Meeting on Desktop
Before the meeting starts, you should go to the Zoom app and choose where’d you like the recording to be saved. That way, you be able to find it in the future. Go to the Settings and then click on Recording. On the right side, you can choose the folder where the file will be saved.
You can also select some other options. For example, if you want the recording to be optimized for a third-party video editor, or if you’d like to have a separate audio file for each participant, now’s the time to select these options.
Here’s our guide to help you through the recording process:
- When you join a meeting, click on the Record sign at the bottom of your screen.
- When you start recording, a sign that says “Recording…” should appear in the top left corner and it should stay there until you turn off the recording.
- If you want to pause a recording you have to click on Pause. There should be two Pause buttons, one at the bottom of the screen and one in the top left corner.
- When you want to resume, you just have to click on the same button.
- When the meeting is over and you want to stop the recording, click on Stop sign at the bottom of your screen.
There you have it! You can now revisit your recording in the folder where you’ve saved it or in the Zoom app, in the Meetings section. You can also send it to other participants as well. We suggest using e-mail or Google Drive as the files can be pretty big.
If you have the latest version of Zoom, the app will automatically separate audio from video. That way, you can send only audio to someone if you find it more convenient.
How to Record a Zoom Meeting in Mobile App
In order to record a Zoom meeting in your mobile app, you need to have a Pro or Business account. In other words, if you’re using a free version of Zoom, you won’t be able to record a meeting on your phone. Therefore, we suggest that you join a meeting from your PC because this option is available to everyone.
As we all know, video recording can take up a lot space, and that’s why Zoom doesn’t store it on your mobile phone. When you record meetings using your phone, they’re actually stored online, in Cloud storage, but you can access them whenever you want.
However, storage space is limited and that’s why we suggest that you always check how much space you have left on your Zoom Cloud. You want to avoid running out of memory and saving only the first half of the meeting, right? Note that it is possible to buy additional Cloud space at a reasonable price.
The Zoom app is very similar on both Apple and Android devices and we’re going to cover them both in the following section. Here’s how you can record a Zoom meeting in the mobile app:
- When you join a meeting, open the Menu by tapping on the three dots in the bottom right corner.
- If you have Android, choose the option “Record”. If you have an iPhone, choose the option “Record to the Cloud”.
- When you start recording, a sign that says “Recording…” should appear in the top right corner.
- To pause or stop the recording, just click on the small icons next to that sign.
When you stop the recording, it’ll automatically be saved to your Zoom Cloud storage space. The fastest way to find it is to go to the Zoom website and open the My Recordings section. Of course, you can always change the name of your recordings and label them as you want.
If you think you’ll need to record every meeting, we recommend you turn on the Automatic Recording option. Again, you can do this only if you’re a host or the host gave you permission to do so. And in truth, this feature has both positive and negative sides.
It’s great if you’re using Zoom for online classes and want to be able to re-watch them. The negative side is that it can take up a lot of storage space if you use it often. The alternative could be to save just the audio recordings and delete the video once when you’ve watched it.
Zoom Recording – a Great Feature!
Many people will agree that this is one of the best options Zoom offers. It’s very useful and allows you to concentrate on the meeting and other participants, without being nervous because you didn’t manage to write everything down. However, you should use it wisely and make sure that you always ask other participants whether they’re OK with it.
