How To Send a Message on Patreon

Patreon is an excellent platform for supporting your favorite content creator. But naturally, that is not all that you can do on Patreon.

How To Send a Message on Patreon

Aside from being able to access special content and other offers from your favorite creators when you become their patron/subscriber, you can also use this platform to message them directly. Patreon also allows the creators to reply to their messages or send messages to their patrons directly.

This article will show you how to send messages on Patreon, first as a patron and then as a content creator.

How to Send Messages to a Creator on Patreon?

There are two methods that you can use to message a creator on Patreon. However, there are some rules that prevent the creator’s inbox from being swarmed by unwanted or junk messages.

In order to message a Patreon creator, you must be their subscriber/patron first. In other words, if you currently pledge or have previously pledged to a creator on this platform, you will be able to message them. But if you have never subscribed to someone’s Patreon account, the Message feature won’t be available for that specific user.

Both of these methods are quite straightforward and simple. The first method includes the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Patreon account
  2. Visit the creator’s Patreon profile
  3. Locate the overview section of their page – this section is directly under the number of this creator’s patrons, on the left side of the screen
  4. Click on More

  5. Choose Message from the popup window

Once you have done that, you will be redirected to a page from which you can send a message to the creator. As an aside, if you ever want to block someone on Patreon, the steps are almost the same. The only difference is that you should choose Block This Creator instead of Messages.

The second messaging method requires the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Patreon account
  2. Navigate to the top-right corner of the navigation header
  3. Click on the Messages icon

  4. Click on New Message
  5. Type the name of a creator you are a patron of
  6. Write your message

If you want to change the recipient of the message, simply click on Change, which is located next to the current recipient’s Patreon name.

It goes without saying that none of the previous methods will work if you have been blocked by a creator you are trying to message.

How to Send Private Messages to Your Patrons

Creators also have the option to send messages to their patrons and show their gratitude.

If you are a creator, you should know that Patreon automatically sends messages to patrons if their payments get declined, so you don’t have to worry about doing that. However, it is a good idea to send additional messages to your subscribers every now and then.

The easiest way of doing this is by clicking on your Patreon Inbox. From there, you will be able to read your received messages and respond to the ones you choose.

You can also view your patron’s profile and click on the Message button located on their right-hand patron card.

How to Send Messages to Multiple Patrons?

The more popular the creator, the more messages they receive, and depending on how popular you are, replying to every patron in person could take days. However, Patreon has solved this problem with their Relationship Manager feature.

In order to send messages to multiple patrons at once, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Patrons option, located on the left side of your screen
  2. Select Relationship Manager
  3. Filter patrons by reward tiers, membership types, pledge dollar value, etc.
  4. Write the message
  5. Click on Message to send it

Filtering is an important step, as it lets you send more personalized messages. It is recommended that you filter the Membership Types field first, setting it to either active or declined patrons.

Unfortunately, you currently can’t pick specific patrons from your list to include in bulk messages.

Who Can You Message on Patron Relationship Manager?

You will need to have a current, or past, financial relationship with someone in order to see them on Patron Relationship Manager.

That said, you can message the following people on Patron Relationship Manager:

  • Active patrons
  • Former patrons
  • Patrons who are marked as fraud
  • Patrons who are declined

You won’t be able to message followers who have never pledged to you before, as the Message feature won’t be active in that case.
