How To Setup an Asus Router

If you have just bought an Asus router you are probably wondering how to set it up. Although setting up routers is usually considered difficult, it doesn’t have to be.

That’s where this article comes in. It will show you everything you need to know in order to set up your Asus router in just a few easy steps.

Setting Up Your Asus Router

Generally speaking, there are two methods you can use to set up your Asus router. We will go through both of them so you can decide which one suits you best.

Before You Start

It’s a common mistake for people to immediately jump into configuring the router without understanding the device first. That said, in order to make sure that you don’t waste too much time on this process, inspect your router thoroughly and get familiar with all of its ports and buttons.

Also, you must ensure that you have a fast and stable network. The following characteristics are considered minimum system requirements:

1. CPU – Intel Core2 Duo P8700/2.5 (3 GHz or above)
2. HDD – 64GB SATA II SSD (Minimum I/O Speed of 200MB per second)
3. System Memory – 4 GB Minimum
4. Network Adaptor – 100/1000M

Once you have done that, you can proceed with the setup.

Method 1: Use Your Computer

You can configure your Asus router through your laptop or PC. Here is how you can do that.

First, connect the HKBN wall plate to the WAN port of your Asus router via LAN cable. After that, connect one end of your second LAN cable to your computer and the other end to the router’s LAN port.

Once you have made sure that everything is connected properly, open your browser (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.) and enter http://192.168.1.1 into its address bar. After pressing Enter, you should see the Windows Security window. In this window, you will need to enter your username and password. Initially, both username and password are set to “admin”.

In case this window doesn’t show up, change the browser and got on the same address. If that doesn’t work either, delete your browser’s cache memory and repeat the process.

After you have logged in, select Go to start the setup. When the Asus setup starts, create a router login name and password and press Next to continue.

That will take you to the next configuration page where you will need to fill in all the blanks and enter required information, such as Network Name (SSID), Security Key, etc. Click on Apply to finish the configuration.

The setup will then ask you to reenter your username and password before applying new settings.

After that, log in to your Asus router through the browser and select WAN which is located in the Advanced Settings. You should also choose Automatic IP which can be found in the WAN Connection Type section and click the Apply button to confirm your choice.

Method 2: Use Your Smartphone

People are used to setting up their routers “the hard way”, doing everything manually through the setup software on their computers. Luckily, Asus developers have released their own Asus Router app which people can be used to configure Asus routers through their mobile phones in a quick and easy way.

Before we start using the Asus Router App, you need to do the following:

1. Plug the power cable into your modem and turn it on.
2. Connect the modem’s Ethernet cable to the WAN port on your router.
3. Plug the power cable into your router and turn it on.
4. Make sure that Power, Internet, and WiFi LED status lights are on.

Now you are ready to set up your router through your mobile phone.

First, open your Asus Router App and tap on the Enable WiFi button. The app will then find your nearby Asus router and display it on your screen. Choose the connection that’s displayed as ASUS.

Once that is done, you will need to enter required information in the blank fields. So, create a network name and password like you did in the previous method and tap on the Next button.

That will take you to the next set of options where you will need to enter your login name and new password. After you have pressed Next again, you should wait for the app to configure your Asus router. You will get notified when the app is done with the process. This usually doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes.
