When you save a snap on a Snapchat story, it will automatically move to your Snapchat Memories.

Snapchat’s Memories feature means you get your own cloud storage that is linked with your account. As long as you are on Snapchat, you can store an unlimited number of snaps and stories.

However, if anything happens to your Snapchat account, all these memories will disappear. Thankfully, Snapchat has an option to export memories to your own camera roll.

This article will explain how to set up your Snapchat to store memories to your camera roll automatically. Also, it will show you how to export existing memories.

Save New Memories to Camera Roll

If you want Snapchat to automatically back up your memories, you will have to enable that option. To do this, you should:

  1. Open Snapchat from the app menu.
  2. Tap on your profile icon on the top-left of the screen.
    export memories
  3. Tap on ‘Settings’ on the top-right of the profile screen.
  4. Select ‘Memories’ from the settings menu.
  5. In the ‘Save Destination’ section, tap on ‘Save Button’.

  7. When you finish, just go back to the beginning screen.

Now, when you edit a snap or a story and hit the save button, they will save to the destination you’ve chosen. The options are:

  1. Memories is the default option and it will only save your snaps and stories to the Snapchat’s cloud.
  2. Memories & Camera Roll will save them both to the cloud and to your phone.
  3. Camera Roll Only will save the memories only to your phone, but they won’t remain on Snapchat.

Save Existing Memories to Camera Roll

If you enable saving memories to camera roll, existing memories won’t be exported. You will have to do this manually. Luckily, the process requires just these few steps:

  1. Open Snapchat App.
  2. Tap on the ‘Memories’ button at the bottom of the screen.

If you don’t want to open a memory, you can skip step 3 and 4. Instead, after step 2, just press and hold the memory that you want to save. When the dropdown menu appears, select ‘Export Snap’.

You can also export this memory to another app, or your own cloud storage. To do this, simply choose ‘Other Apps’ when you reach step 5.

Can You Export All Memories At Once?

Unfortunately, there is no way to export all your memories at once. You will have to manually go through each saved snap and export it.

However, once you enable Snapchat to automatically save your snaps to your camera roll, you will never again have to export a memory by yourself.

Exporting Other Data from Snapchat

Besides keeping the memories of your snaps, Snapchat stores a lot of other user data. Some of this data is available for export. For example, you can get your chat history, friend list, all of your profile information, and other data.

To do this, you should:

  1. Visit the official Snapchat account page.
  2. Type in your sign-up details.
  3. Go to ‘My Data’
  4. Scroll down and click on ‘Submit a request’.

Adding and Verifying Your E-mail

If you haven’t verified your Snapchat mail, you will not be able to request your data. To add and verify your email, you have to:

  1. Open Snapchat in the app menu.
  2. Tap on your profile icon on the top-left of the screen.
  3. Go to the ‘Settings’ menu (gear icon) on your profile screen. It’s on the top-right side of the screen.
    export all memories
  4. Tap on ‘Email’. If you never verified your email, this section should be marked in red.

Better Safe Than Sorry

Keep in mind that if you deactivate your account and leave it for 30 days, it will disappear completely. This means that your Snapchat memories and other data stored on their cloud will permanently go away.

So if you care about your Snapchat memories, back up all the data. By using information from this article, you can save all your best snaps.
