The Top Instagram Hashtags [November 2019]
Remember the elderly ladies on the TV commercials who had only the vaguest idea of what a Facebook wall was or how unfriending worked? “That’s not how any of this works!” Well, even those nice old gals know what hashtags are. Everyone has learned about the little #tags at the end of a post or tweet that describe the content or make a clever joke about the topic. Hashtags are now widely used to search out particular kinds of content, to promote one’s own writing or photos, or to get people excited about an upcoming event (#superbowlsunday, anyone?).
To help you know what’s happening in the world of trending hashtags, we’ve compiled this list of the most popular hashtags on various social media sites. Some of these hot hashtags may be familiar to you, some may come as a surprise, but all of them have been wildly popular recently. Without further ado, here are your favorite hashtags for June 2019.
Top 100 Instagram Hashtags – January 2019
Instagram is the place to check for the most happening hashtags. It seems like everyone who posts a snap or a story on Instagram tries to fill the caption with a dozen hashtags to try and grab as many views as possible. Even if that trend has become a bit played out, you can’t argue with results—these hashtags are popular, with the top 100 being pretty consistent throughout the last several months. And unlike on networks like Facebook and Twitter, Instagram hashtags seem to not follow the national discourse, sticking to their own path with photograph and art-inspired hashtags. Let’s take a look at the hottest hashtags on Instagram for June, along with the number of Instagram posts that carry each tag.

No real shockers in the results list. Love, as always, is the leading tag and by a huge margin. Tags about fashion, cuteness, and the like continue to rank highly. #instagood and #photooftheday are strong runners-up for the top spot, while #nofilter (usually a high ranker) seems to have fallen from favor somewhat, clocking in at a relatively paltry #34. (Guess the BS factor got to be a little too high.) Lots of people offering likes and follows in exchange for the same thing, of course. As always, people are trying hard to game the social networks.
Top Facebook Hashtags for June 2019
Facebook’s hashtag content is much harder to analyze than Instagram’s, as most Facebook posts are private and not viewable by the kinds of algorithms that collect the lists for Instagram and Twitter. There are a few lists on the Internet purporting to be the most popular tags, but those claims are at best a wild exaggeration – the only people who have that data are Facebook, and they aren’t talking.
However, don’t despair! You can get some information about hashtag popularity within the subset of Facebook posts that you have access to (the posts of your friends and groups, plus any public posts) by using the #hashtag as a search within Facebook.
Twitter Hashtags for June 2019
Twitter hashtags change very very rapidly, but here are the top 22 hashtags as of June 2019. (We actually pull the top 30 hashtags for Twitter, but many of them are not in English; as our readership is almost entirely English-speaking, we only present the English language tags.) As you can see, most Twitter hashtags have to do with trending events rather than popular concepts.

Hashtag holidays
If you’re trying to set, rather than follow, a hashtag trend, then being aware of upcoming holidays is a good way to stay on the cutting edge. Entries such as #NationalTriviaDay, #NationalHatDay, #NationalHotDogDay, #CheeseLoversDay, or #WorldCancerDay can be used to help communicate your message, incorporate a bit of fun or humanity into your brand or post, and keep your content in the national conversation. SproutSocial has put together a neat PDF with every one of these dates, along with their associated names, meanings, and hashtags. This is an incredibly valuable resource that offers a selection of days in order to promote your business, hobby, client, or brand. Just choose carefully as using some of the more sensitive hashtag holidays to plug an agenda could get you into serious hot water if you mishandle a specific tag—just as we mentioned above with Twitter hashtags, these things require you to be gentle and careful when handling content.
