How To Change Your Age in Bumble

Posted by Robert Hayes on May 11, 2019

Bumble is a dating app that has become very popular among people looking for perhaps a more meaningful connection than is usually found with Tinder. Although based on the same swipe-left, swipe-right paradigm as Tinder, in an opposite-sex Bumble match, the woman has to message first to have a conversation. This minor change makes a major difference in the way social interactions play out within the app, and has been a major driver in the app’s success.

One thing that many users would like to do in Bumble is change their age. Sometimes people put the wrong age into their social media accounts, and Bumble used to require linkage to a Facebook account. If you’re actually 25 but Facebook thinks you’re 18, then Bumble will think you’re 18 too. In this article, I’m going to show you a couple of different ways to change your age in Bumble.

Why you might want to change your Bumble age

Before the Cambridge Analytica data scandal in 2018, Bumble required new users to sign up for their service using a Facebook account. After the scandal broke, they changed that policy and now you can sign up with just a phone number. Most current users signed up with their Facebook accounts. A lot of dating sites use Facebook authentication because it gives them a real person (sort of) to connect the account to. In reality, of course, lots of people have Facebook alt accounts, and many use those alt accounts for sites like Bumble.

Regardless of how your account was set up, you may decide that the age that Bumble has for you is wrong, either because it IS wrong or just because you want to present a different image online. There are plenty of 40-year-olds who would rather be “35” on the dating sites, and we’re not here to judge. (We will judge if you’re under 18 and trying to change your age to appear older – please don’t do that, kids. It’s a great way to destroy your own life and someone else’s as well.)

Depending on whether you started your account with Facebook or not, there are two different approaches to take.

How to change your age in Bumble – Facebook account

If you want to make any changes to your Bumble profile, you will need to edit your age on Facebook first. Here’s how:

  1. Log into Facebook and go to the Request a Birthday Change page.
  2. Select the “Add year” text link in the center of the box.
  3. Repeat for month and day.
  4. Provide a reason for the change.
  5. Click “Send.”

It’s unclear  if Facebook checks these requests manually or uses a bot to do the work. Regardless, the change will take at least 24 hours to occur. However, you will not receive a notification when the age change request has been approved. Note that Facebook does not allow you to change your age often – so you might be stuck with whatever you change it to.

Once you have changed your age in Facebook, the changes should be reflected in Bumble. However, for some people this does not happen. If your age change is not reflected on Bumble within a few days, send an email to [email protected] explaining your circumstances. Note that any changes they make will likely be permanent, so you should not contact them unless you absolutely need to change your age.

If they fail to respond, you may need to delete your Bumble account and create a new one in order for the app to pick up on your new age.

How to Change Your Age in Bumble – Manual Signup

If you signed up for Bumble with a phone number, then when you went through the signup process they just asked you for your birthday.

Just like this

Here’s the bad news: once you’ve put that date in there, it’s in there and you cannot change by yourself.

Here’s the good news: you can send a message to Bumble and ask them to change your age. The email address is [email protected] – just let them know you got your age wrong at signup and they will fix you right up. Do note that they’re not going to let you play games with this; if today you’re 30 and tomorrow you’re 40 and Wednesday you’re 30 again…good luck getting that second change put through.

Age and dating – Tell the truth or not?

Now for an even bigger question than how to change your age: If you’re one of those people who is changing your age to make it appear that you are older or younger than you actually are, is this a good idea?

Telling little white lies while dating is an accepted norm. But when does a little white lie turn into a big lie? Depending on what you read, up to half of all dating app users lie about something on their profile, whether it’s their weight, height, body shape, career or age. But should we lie?

Much of that depends on what you are using Bumble for. We all know Tinder is for hookups and have to contend with predominantly low quality people on the app as a result. Bumble is trying to be different, and perhaps our approach to it should be different too.

If you’re looking to hook up on Bumble, age doesn’t really matter all that much. Your profile pic is all most people will look at, and it will tell the story for you. If you’re looking for something more, or using BFF mode, age is less of an issue – but honesty is more of an issue.

Most people will understand someone using a fake age on the internet. A day, month or year or two difference, and nobody will think twice about it – though it’s not worth losing someone’s trust over. Make it more than that, and it could be viewed as negatively as catfishing. That is not a good basis on which to begin any relationship, friends or otherwise.

A little white lie at the beginning of a friendship or relationship might be fine. Something more significant almost definitely won’t be. So think carefully before you create your Bumble profile. While you genuinely can be whoever you want to be online, if you want to take it offline, the truth usually comes out.

My birthday is correct on Facebook 10/26/61, but on Bumble it says my age is 25? I deleted my Bumble account and opened a new one and my age is still wrong!
