How To Cancel your Tinder Gold Subscription

Posted by Jamie on October 31, 2019

Tinder Gold is the latest innovation from the world’s most popular dating app.  The primary intention of this app seems to be to part you with your money, but hopefully, it’ll increase your chances of getting dates and hookups as a result.

Whether you’re specifically looking for a hookup, some enjoyable dates or something more serious, Tinder Gold is marketed at making finding matches much easier than the dating apps that came before it. If you’ve been around long enough, you might remember the days when you would actually have to scan a picture into your computer in order to finish setting up your dating profile.  Thankfully, technology has advanced way past those mechanical days, allowing anyone who’s a little lonely to find their ultimate pairing.  Tinder can genuinely achieve that, but it isn’t for everyone. Alternately, maybe you’ve got Tinder Gold, and it achieved exactly what you needed, and you definitely want to get rid of that subscription before you go on your honeymoon. If you are ready cancel your Tinder Gold subscription for any reason, this TechJunkie tutorial will show you how to cancel your Tinder Gold subscription and make sure you won’t be charged for an auto-renewal.

Tinder Gold and Tinder Plus

There are several “elite” levels of Tinder, which offer additional services to make it worth the price.  Tinder Gold claims it has the most features, including the very valuable “See Who Likes You” feature, which allows you to see who’s currently interested in you, but playing coy.  The rates for Tinder Gold vary on age and location, but run around $30 per month to try it out, $19 per month, if you pay a 6 months subscription, or $12.50 per month for a 1-year subscription.  If you have Tinder Plus and upgrade to Tinder Gold, you only have to pay the difference in the cost between the two. Making money off of lonely hearts isn’t a new thing; Tinder just does it very well!

If that’s too much right now or you’re not getting value for money, you can unsubscribe from Tinder Gold at any time.

Tinder Plus is a useful addition to the free Tinder app that you get by default when you sign up for Tinder. It’s an add on to the core Tinder service level, and costs $9.99 per month for users under age 30, and $19.99 per month for users over 30.

The free version of Tinder is a bit limited and constrained in which features it gives you access to, while Tinder Plus adds a bunch of features that help users find true love, including unlimited Likes, 5 Super Likes per day, 1 Boost per month, Passport so you can swipe anywhere in the world and Rewind so you can undo accidental swipes. All of those features can offer value depending on where you live and what you want to achieve. It also removes ads which is a huge bonus as Tinder is more pleasant to use when you aren’t distracted by a feed full of ads.

Tinder Gold is an upgrade to Tinder Plus, which adds “Likes You” to the mix. “Like You” is a cool Tinder Gold feature that shows you a grid of people who have already swiped right on you. It’s the fast track to love and very useful if you live in a large city with lots and lots of Tinder users.

Tinder does not bill you for Tinder Gold directly. It manages payments through Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. So if you want to change or cancel your Tinder subscription, you need to do it through your relevant app store. If you use an Android device, you’ll go through the Google Play Store to update your Tinder Gold account, whereas if you are an Apple iPhone user, you’ll use the Apple Store.

If you’re not getting your money’s worth with Tinder Gold or just want to save some money, here is how to cancel your Tinder Gold subscription.

Cancelling Your Tinder Gold Subscription on Android

You can cancel your Tinder Gold subscription using your phone in a couple of seconds. Your premium access will continue until the end of the billing period when you will revert to the free version of the app unless you resubscribe to Plus. This is *only* true when canceling via Android.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone
  2. Tap the three bars at the top, which indicate the menu
  3. Select Subscriptions from the left menu
  4. Select Tinder
  5. Select Cancel or Unsubscribe to do just that
  6. Confirm your cancellation/unsubscribe when prompted

You will not be refunded any partially used time using this method. This merely cancels any future subscriptions until you subscribe again.

If this doesn’t work for some reason, you can do it on the web using a desktop browser.

  1. Navigate to Google Play and log into your account
  2. Select Subscriptions from the left menu
  3. Select Tinder in the center pane and select Manage
  4. Select Cancel Subscription from the options

This achieves the same goal but should always work even if the app method does not work for you.

Cancelling Your Tinder Gold Subscription on an iOS Device (iPhone or iPad)

If you registered with your Apple ID, you’ll need to pop into the Apple Store to make changes to your paid subscription.  Your time with Tinder Gold will continue until the end of the subscription, at which point it will revert to Tinder Plus.

  1. Open Settings, [your name]
  2. Select iTunes & App Store and log in using your Apple ID
  3. Scroll to Subscriptions and select Manage.
  4. Select Tinder and select Unsubscribe

If the slider is set to auto-renew, toggle that to off to avoid any future payments. If you don’t see the slider, it may be disabled or already toggled off in iTunes.  For billing questions, you can always contact Apple Support.

Cancel your Tinder Gold subscription on Tinder Online

If you use Tinder Online, you won’t be able to use an app store to cancel Tinder Gold. Instead, you will need to manually stop the payment using the website. It will be exactly the same method as when you started it.

  1. Log in to Tinder from here
  2. Select your profile icon in the top of the window
  3. Select Manage Account
  4. Select Cancel
  5. Disable auto-renew

Again, you will still have access to Tinder Gold until the end of the paid period when you will revert to the free version.

Cancel Tinder Gold but Keep Tinder Plus

For Android users, you have to cancel your subscription to Tinder Gold and then subscribe anew to Tinder Plus. There is no option in any app store to downgrade your subscription, only renew and cancel. Surely, Tinder is working on this functionality as you read this article.

For iOS users, you do have the ability to downgrade without cancelling completely.  Of course, if you are on your honeymoon, you might prefer to fully cancel your account.

i subscribed thinking it was for one month but was charged $74 and $112 and i unsubscribed to both within hours on the same day. my $74 says its been refunded. but i don’t want to pay $112 for a service I had for less than a day. I should get a full refund, you could even keep a few dollars for a processing fee, but $112 is absurd!

The people running tinder are friggin thieves. They make canceling the account impossible. Also every one of their customer service type links goes nowhere. I would love to find their office.
