The Best Offline No-WiFi Required Music Apps for Android

Posted by Jamie on April 27, 2019

As most music is now streamed, looking for no WiFi music apps for Android may seem counterintuitive. But what about those times when you’re on the subway or flying, or a passenger in a car? Or times when you’re at the edge of your data plan and don’t want to go over? There are more times than you might think when listening to locally stored music on your phone can be a lifesaver.

The apps in this list work fine when you have WiFi or 4G but will also play music stored on your phone. As most newer phones have decent storage or the ability to expand it with SD cards, it is easy to load up your phone with music ahead of time and play it when you need it.

Here are some of the best no WiFi music apps for Android available right now.

Google Play Music

Google Play Music comes built into the Android OS and is a credible audio player. It not only streams from the web but can also play local media too. If you’re familiar with the look and feel of Android and have used Google apps before, using this app is a breeze.

The design is clean and flat and makes short work of queuing up music, using SD cards as storage and playing music anywhere at any time. It comes with Android but can be downloaded from here if you need it.

Slacker Radio

Slacker Radio is a decent music app for discovering new music and for listening to internet radio. If you buy Slacker Premium you can download tracks for offline listening too. So if you don’t have the biggest collection of music at home, you can find what you like on here and save some to your phone.

The design of the app is good. It’s clean, flat and easy to navigate. There is a decent range of music on there from across the genres and that Slacker Premium subscription allows you to skip ads or tracks too. Slacker Radio is available from the Google Play Store here.

SoundCloud Go

SoundCloud Go is a premium version of Soundcloud that allows for offline play. As this is one of the most popular audio apps anywhere in the world, the ability to listen while connected and save some for when you’re not is ideal. SoundCloud Go is $4.99 a month and allows you to listen to anything on the platform, skip ads and download content to your phone.

The design of SoundCloud Go is clean, attractive and easy to use. To download music, just select the download icon beside an artist or within a playlist. It is simple and as far as I can tell, unlimited. SoundCloud Go is available from the Google Play Store.

Spotify Premium

Spotify can be used for free to listen to lots of music but if you subscribe to Spotify Premium you can download it too. This makes it an ideal choice as a WiFi music app for Android. It’s $9.99 a month but offers unlimited access to music, no ads, unlimited skips and the option to download music to your device.

The app design is attractive and easy to use. The main issue with using it is the sheer volume of content on there. Once you do find something you like you can download it to your phone for offline play. Spotify Premium is available in the Google Play Store.

Pandora Premium

Pandora Premium is the paid version of Pandora, an alternative to SoundCloud or Spotify. The free app offers access to a lot of music but you will need the $9.99 Pandora Premium to be able to download to your phone to listen without WiFi. That cash also lets you avoid ads, listen to anything on the platform and generally use it however you like.

Pandora isn’t as well designed as SoundCloud or Spotify in my opinion but is as easy to use. You can create playlists, discover new music and all that good stuff while downloading some of it to your phone. Pandora Premium is available here.

Deezer Premium

Not wanting to be left out, Deezer also offers offline play with Deezer Premium. It’s the paid-for version again at $9.99 a month but you get all the goodness of the music app with the ability to avoid ads, skip tracks and download to your device.

Deezer has a very simple design that uses simple colors and menus to offer easy access around the app. There are thousands of sources to choose from covering most genres. You can import your own music to this app too offering even more flexibility. Deezer Premium is available from the Google Play Store.

Those are some of the best no WiFi music apps for Android around right now. Some do cost money but given the depth and breadth of the content they provide, I think it’s a price well worth paying!
