The Best Theragun Alternatives in 2022

After a long day of working your muscles, sometimes all you need is a massage to get rid of the soreness. However, in some cases, it’s not easy to go to a spa or massage therapist to have the problem solved due to conflicts with schedule or whatnot.

Here is when percussive therapy comes into the picture. For starters, it delivers targeted vibrations and pressure into your muscles. This relieves muscle soreness and stiffness and increases your range of motion without having to spend hours in a massage parlor.

One of the most popular devices for percussive therapy is the Theragun. Basically, this device helps you deal with your muscle aches the same way a massage therapist can but in a faster way, and perhaps deeper, using vibrations.

The best part of it is that you can bring it anywhere. Whether you’re in the gym, on a vacation, or at work, you can get access to a quick massage that can improve your stiff or sore muscles no matter where you are at any time of day.

With this, you don’t need to pay for a massage therapist. You also don’t have to wait a long time to relieve your sore muscles, and, as research shows, you can get the same efficacy as going to get a traditional massage.

However, a Theragun isn’t always budget-friendly. Depending on the model you get, the price range runs between $299 and $599.

If you want to experience percussion therapy but don’t want to spend a month’s worth of food on a massage gun, you may want to consider looking at alternatives to the Theragun. Fortunately, the market has numerous Theragun alternatives, and if you want better features, we got your back with these recommendations.

01 Theragun Prime

Theragun Prime

The Theragun Prime is Therabody’s most basic massage gun, but don’t let that deceive you. It still packs a punch with a 16-millimeter amplitude into the body’s soft tissue. Thus, you can say that it’s good for your muscle.   What’s more, it offers programmable speeds that range between 1750 and 2400 percussions per minute. So, it’s easier to adjust the intensity of the massage based on what your muscle needs. All of this, plus the Theragun Prime’s trademark triangular ergonomic handle, four interchangeable heads, QX65 motor, and QuietForce technology, make it well worth the money. It’s lightweight, weighing only 2.2 pounds. It comes in a soft drawstring bag instead of a zippered case, making it easy to throw into a backpack or carry-on. It has a two-hour battery life, which isn’t the best. However, while many other full-sized massage guns have longer battery lives, two hours is more than enough to get the average individual through a week of percussive therapy treatment, if not more. Overall, the Theragun Prime is basic yet elegant and effective, focusing on the most important percussive therapeutic elements while avoiding bloated tech specs and unnecessary extras.

Pros

  • Good for muscle
  • Long battery life

Cons

  • Quality control

Specification

  • Price $249.00
  • Product Dimensions 12 x 3 x 12 inches

02 Sonic Handheld Percussion Massage Gun

Sonic Handheld Percussion Massage Gun

The Sonic Handheld Percussion Massage Gun is made to help with musculoskeletal issues like soreness and strains. A powerful brushless motor and five various heads are used in this LifePro Fitness powerful massager to offer healing and pain-relieving percussions for weary, tight muscles.   It’s for athletes, exercise aficionados, and everyone else who wants to take an active role in their muscle recovery. Apart from its five different heads, this massage gun also offers five levels of intensity. This allows you to pick whichever massage intensity you need to deal with your muscle aches and improve your recovery time. However, what you won’t like about this is its size. Apparently, the Sonic Handheld Percussion Massage Gun is nearly the size of a regular drill. It also has a traditional design, making it difficult to bring with you on the go. Needless to say, its five various heads can also be a bit of a hassle to bring. If you’re traveling with this massage gun, you will need an extra bag to keep the massage gun and its replaceable parts. But if you’re short on budget, this makes a good Theragun alternative due to its price tag. At just $79.99, you can get a decent massage gun that can help you ease your sore muscles.

Pros

  • Sonic Massage
  • Pain relief

Cons

  • Huge

Specification

  • Price $79.99
  • Product Dimensions 13.86 x 9.76 x 3.46 inches

03 Theragun PRO

Theragun PRO

If budget is not much of a problem for you, you might want to consider the Theragun Pro. Theragun Pro comes with six different head attachments. It has five speeds, the highest of which is 2400 PPM. While not as high as some of its competitors, Therabody claims that its cannon stands out with a 16 mm amplitude that reaches 60% deeper into muscles than other massage devices, so you’re guaranteed to experience pain relief. It’s made of high-quality plastic with rubberized handles. Only the outside of the handle is rubberized, much like the Elite model. The Pro features a colorful circle on the section containing the engine, unlike the Elite, which has a colored ring on its arm. This part comes in two colors: blue and green. Although it is a fingerprint magnet. The Pro, like the Elite, has an OLED panel that displays the speeds, battery level, and force applied in a fashionable manner. It’s the best Theragun in terms of ergonomics, and it’s not just because of the multiple grip handle. The only Theragun with an adjustable arm is the Pro. The arm can be locked into four different configurations to enhance the massage sensation.   But, be warned that it’s quite heavy. In fact, it’s heavier than most massage guns on the market.

Pros

  • Pain Relief
  • Excellent quality machine

Cons

  • Heavy

Specification

  • Price $499.00
  • Product Dimensions 12 x 3 x 12 inches
  • Batteries 2 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)

04 TheraGun Elite

TheraGun Elite

The Theragun Elite is a nice, powerful massage gun. It outperforms the entry-level Theragun Prime in terms of power and features. Although it lacks the power of the top-of-the-line Pro model, it can still provide a fairly thorough percussive massage. The Theragun Elite is priced higher than other massage guns like the TimTam Power Massager and the Hyperice Hypervolt Plus, but it has good battery life. This means you can use it without having to worry too much about its battery. The Theragun Elite’s robust, triangular form differs from the normal design of several popular massage guns, such as the Legiral Le3 or the Hyperice Hypervolt. Unlike similar products, the Elite can be held in a variety of positions, allowing users to apply pressure more effectively and comfortably. This is great if you need to massage the hard-to-reach spots on your body, such as your lower back and hamstrings. The Theragun Elite offers speeds from 1750 to 2400 percussions per minute. However, such speeds could leave marks on the body.

Pros

  • Decent battery life
  • Great to handle

Cons

  • it leaves mark

Specification

  • Price $299.00
  • Product Dimensions 11.14 x 10.55 x 4.76 inches
  • Batteries 1 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)

05 Theragun Mini

Theragun Mini

If you travel a lot and need an on-the-go massager, the Theragun Mini is one of the best options you have on the market. It has a portable design that makes it easy to travel with it, but that’s not the only reason you should consider the Theragun Mini. What makes it stand out is that, in spite of its size, the Theragun Mini can hit harder spots. Three speeds are available on the Mini: 1750, 2100, and 2400 PPM (percussions per minute).    Although comparable products like the Legiral Le3 Massage Gun offer much more PPM variability, this is an acceptable range (at less expense). The device’s speed is controlled by a single button on the side, with three lights displaying the current PPM. In addition to four attachments, the Prime costs $100 more than the Mini, which comes with only one “standard ball.” All things considered, the regular ball is a good all-around accessory that can be used on almost any portion of the body. This is especially true considering Theragun attachments are made of closed-cell foam rather than rigid plastic or hard rubber, both of which can be harsh on bony areas or extremely tight knots. One flaw is its slow charging connector, so you may need to extend a little more patience when charging it.

Pros

  • Hit harder spots
  • Good for the body

Cons

  • Slow charging connector

Specification

  • Price $159.00
  • Product Dimensions 8.15 x 7.2 x 4.41 inches
  • Batteries 1 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)

06 Hypervolt 2 Pro

Hypervolt 2 Pro

The Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro is one of the greatest massage guns on the market, capable of relieving muscular tension and enhancing joint range of motion.   There are five speeds on the Hypervolt 2 Pro: 1700, 1900, 2100, 2400, and 2700 percussions per minute (or PPM). Turning a large dial on the back of the cannon controls the speed, with little lights around the perimeter displaying the current PPM. According to the Pro’s revolutionary pressure sensor technology, three extra lights on the bottom part of the dial will represent your current force production. When your gun is connected to the Hyperice App through Bluetooth, a single light on the bottom of the Pro’s dial will glow (available for iOS and Android).   Flipping a switch on the underside of the handle, right close to the charging connector, turns on the Pro. The Hypervolt 2 Pro has a three-hour battery life, which is 60 minutes longer than the Theragun Elite and 30 minutes longer than the Theragun Mini. With a six-hour run time, the Theragun Pro doubles the run duration of the Hypervolt 2 Pro, but at a cost of $200 more. However, compared to other Theragun alternatives, the Hypervolt 2 Pro’s power button is hard to press.

Pros

  • Able to get deep
  • Great battery life

Cons

  • Power button hard to press

Specification

  • Price $379.00
  • Product Dimensions 12.13 x 8.78 x 4.69 inches
  • Batteries 24V lithium-ion battery

07 Hypervolt 2 Massage Gun

Hypervolt 2 Massage Gun

If you follow top athletes on Instagram, you’ve probably seen the Hyperice Hypervolt 2. It’s essentially a percussion massage cannon made for professional and amateur athletes alike. The Hyperice Hypervolt 2 can now be used by those who aren’t regular athletes, but it is unquestionably an expensive item for typical consumers. The Hyperice Hypervolt 2 will appear heavy if it is your first massage gun, weighing around 2 lbs. It is, however, significantly lighter than the Hyperice Hypervolt (2.5 lbs) and Hyperice Hypervolt Plus models (3 lbs). The Hypervolt 2 has a thinner, non-detachable pill-shaped grip that is considerably easier to hold. The spherical handle on the older models made it difficult for some users to operate during long workout sessions. In terms of performance, the device’s low-level mode produces 2000 percussions per minute (ppm), while the medium-level mode produces 2,350 ppm. The highest percussion setting is 2,700ppm, which is the same as the Hypervolt 2 Pro. The standard model has a 60W high-torque motor that is still efficient, but the Pro model has a 90W motor. When you press the Hypervolt 2 on your muscles, it remains stable, indicating that it has a well-engineered motor, so you can bet that this is an effective, powerful massage gun. One weak point, though, is it’s louder than other massage guns.

Pros

  • Powerful and Effective
  • Amazing Percussion Massage Gun

Cons

  • Way to loud

Specification

  • Price $239.00
  • Product Dimensions 12.17 x 8.75 x 4.61 inches
  • Batteries 24V lithium-ion battery

08 Hyperice Hypervolt GO

Hyperice Hypervolt GO

The Go fills a distinct need, portability and convenience, for folks who are constantly on the go. It’s a miniature massager. These have become the newest fad in the massage gun world, and various firms have been frantically trying to bring tiny versions of their popular gadgets onto the market.   What makes it stand out is its grip. Unlike its competitors, it has one of the most comfortable grips to offer, so reaching every part of your body is easier. In terms of design, The body is made of matte plastic rather than metal. It is only available in one color: black. Given Hyperice’s illustrious reputation, we would have preferred a bit of color variation. It’s a minor detail, yet it elevates the experience. It’s a simple device with no bells and whistles. The ring LED battery indicator on the bottom end of the handle is the only thing of note. However, one downside of using this is the noise it produces.

Pros

  • High quality
  • Comfortable grip

Cons

  • More noise

Specification

  • Price $159.00
  • Product Dimensions 11 x 8 x 4 inches
  • Batteries 1 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)
