The pandemic made many industries see the benefit of having their employees work from home. This also resulted in the rise of the demand for office equipment, particularly chairs, as people start building their office space at home. One of the brands that captured the attention of many, even more, is the Herman Miller Aeron.
Herman Miller has changed the world of office furniture with its well-designed products. But, one of the most popular among them is the Aeron chair. This model is well-made and has a trendy design.
This is a sturdy, comfortable, and ergonomic chair that may be used for hours. Hence, many companies prefer it. But, today, even those who are working from the comfort of their homes trust it because of this, making their home office setup cozier.
The materials are also superb. The Aeron’s mesh, for instance, is flexible, breathable, and supportive for long periods of time. The recline function is balanced and safe too, allowing you to rest and relieve backaches.
The best part of buying a Herman Miller Aeron chair is that you don’t need to assemble it. It comes right to your doorstep fully assembled.
The disadvantages that come with it must also be considered, though. Unfortunately, it’s not the most comfortable for some users. Some may find its mesh back support a bit uncomfortable. Also, it lacks backrest adjustments, which makes it a bit difficult for your body to fit if you’re not seated in the right size.
Luckily, you have other Herman Miller Aeron alternatives to choose from. Because of the growing demand for office furniture, the market today can offer you plenty of options if you think Herman Miller Aeron isn’t for you. Here are some of them.
The Ergohuman High Back Swivel Chair’s first feature is its futuristic appearance. It’s not unattractive, which is a pleasant surprise given how most mesh chairs struggle with aesthetics, but its segmented seatback is what gives it that futuristic look, so there’s no hiding or disguising it, which may make it a little more difficult for this model to blend in with some home décor schemes. However, its appearance isn’t the only thing that matters. Fortunately, this office chair is also comfortable. Right off the bat, it feels solid. Thus, you don’t have to worry about your safety while seated. Furthermore, given the height adjustment range, this model can be used by users ranging in height from 5’2″ to 6’6″, depending on the leg length of the user in question. Second, the base and lift mechanism are both ruggedized and capable of withstanding up to 350 pounds of weight, which is greater than many other chairs on the market today. While this does not qualify the high back as a bariatric chair, it does make this model more practical and accessible to a larger market. Lastly, the fact that it comes in a range of colors makes it that much easier to match it to your existing home decor plan. However, its armrest isn’t what you’d expect from the Ergohuman High Back Swivel Chair. If you were to ask me, it still needs some tweaking to make it more comfortable.
The T80 is one of Sidiz’s best products that you can use either for your on-site office or your home office. This one stands out the most due to its size and, of course, quality. The T80 is larger in every regard than its cousin, the Sidiz T50, with a half-inch to one-inch increase in seat width, depth, height range, and backrest height. This implies it will fit a broader range of body types and sizes. But, it’s not solely what you’ll like about this chair. At first glance, you’ll see that the T80 is definitely a beautiful chair. It has elegant tubular control knobs, a brush metal back panel that conceals the lumbar support, and an unobtrusive armrest design. As for its feel, the T80 also appears to be well-made. It’s big and substantial, made of durable materials that look beautiful. During the two weeks I tested it, there were no strange squeaks or rattling from the mechanisms. This is one of the chairs that I believe will continue to perform in the long run. What many would not like much about the T80, though, is its seat. The cushion on the Sidiz T80 is thicker than the T50’s, making it far more comfortable even after extended periods of time. In spite of that, when compared to Herman Miller Aeron, it’s still a bit thin. Thus, it’s not as comfortable for some users. The good thing about its seat, however, is that it’s fully removable. And with such thickness, it’s so easy to simply throw it in the washer and have it cleaned.
If you’re into mesh chairs, the Workpro Quantum 9000 Series mesh chair is yet another great option that can replace the Herman Miller Aeron chair. The Workpro Quantum 9000 is a mid-range office chair that is frequently likened to the more well-known Herman Miller Aeron, owing to its similar looks. However, its quality is also worth talking about. While putting the chair together, the first thing you’ll notice is how weighty all of the components are. The preassembled mesh seat and bottom tilt plate must each weigh at least 30 pounds. The armrest base and connector between the seat and backrest are two essential elements on the Quantum 9000 that utilize metal materials for durability. Of course, the cylinder is made of a single solid piece of metal. The quantity of plastic parts is one of the obvious indications of a budget office chair. One of them clearly isn’t the Quantum 9000. This chair, assuming the mesh holds up, should easily last for several years. The Quantum, especially as a mesh chair, is quite hefty, weighing in at 60 pounds, thanks to all of the metal elements. In comparison, the Herman Miller Aeron B weighs 55 pounds. This gives it a solid feel. Despite its seat being preassembled, assembling some of its parts can still be quite difficult. Unfortunately, you have to deal with it if you choose to purchase this office chair as it doesn’t give you an option to have it preassembled when delivered to your doorstep, unlike the famous Aeron chair.
Sidiz is a breath of fresh air in the world of office chairs, which is dominated by huge names like Herman Miller at the top and a whole lot of throwaway brands at the bottom. The firm, based in South Korea, is noted for its midrange office chairs with high-end capabilities, so if you’re on a mid-range budget, this might be the one for you. The mesh seat on the Sidiz T50 Air makes it more suitable for hotter weather. Surprisingly, it does away with the forward seat tilt and specialized lumbar support. As for putting the chair up, The Sidiz T50 was rather simple to put together, with only a few steps to complete. The only challenging phase was fastening the backrest to the seat pan, which took more effort than anticipated. When holding the weight of the fairly heavy seat, this was a little difficult to control. Anyone who has been warned not to move heavy objects should have someone assist them in putting the chair together, but what makes it stand out is its adjustment options. From the ground to the top of the seat cushions, the seat height can be as low as 15 inches. The Sidiz T50 is ideal for short people who frequently find their feet dangling from standard workplace chairs. You’ll also love the waterfall seat edge and the flexibility to modify the seat depth. Whether you’re short or tall, the 18 – 21 inch seat depth adjustment guarantees your knees never brush up against the seat’s edge. One flaw, though, is its foam. Unfortunately, it still needs some upgrades for it to be more comfortable to use.
The Duramont Ergonomic Office Chair is a top-of-the-line executive chair that will keep you comfortable as you go about your daily tasks at work or at home. The breathable mesh executive chair includes a variety of adjustable features that allow you to fine-tune it to your specific needs, and it’s made of high-quality materials that will keep it in good shape for a long time. The ergonomic chair also has adjustable lumbar support that you can use to find the most comfortable position for your lower back. The adjustable lumbar support included with this Duramont ergonomic adjustable office chair is likely the only reason you’ll have to pay more than $300 for it. This chair’s lumbar support allows you to pinpoint the exact spot on your back that needs a little extra adjustment, ensuring that your spine is in the most comfortable position for you to work. This is something you won’t find on the AmazonBasics High-Back Office Chair, but the Duramont high back ergonomic adjustable office chair is almost twice as expensive, so if your back is a significant issue, you should really consider acquiring it. Moreover, the Duramont adjustable office chair has a padded seat cushion that makes it incredibly pleasant to sit in, and the mesh back also has an attached headrest that should come in handy if you lean back. The padded armrests of the ergonomic office chair are also very comfy to rest your hands-on, and the rollerblade wheels allow you to reach over anything you need to. It’s also worth noting that you can adjust the backrest up to 120 degrees, but if that’s not enough for you, the Homall chair can be adjusted up to 180 degrees, thus allowing you to lie flat on it. Ironically, its padding is also its weak point. Many find it hard, especially when you first use it. So, it’s not comfortable for some.
The Space Seating Professional AirGrid is a durable mesh/PU office chair by Space Seating. It’s not glamorous or spectacular, but it covers all the essentials. This is good for those who need a quick office chair replacement even when on a budget. At a simple glance, you’ll notice that the design team clearly did not put much attention into aesthetics, preferring to focus on utility above form. That’s not to say it’s an unsightly piece of furniture, yet it won’t win any beauty prizes either as a mesh chair. But, don’t be fooled by how it looks as it’s still functional. It does its job well too just as how it’s designed to be. The Space Seating Professional AirGrid chair covers all of the essentials while avoiding the pitfalls that many off-brand seats make. It has the standard 360-swivel, tilt and lock, and seat height adjustment features. There are also armrests that are independently height adjustable (but not ergonomic). The mesh seatback serves the model well in terms of comfort, as it is both robust and breathable. The seat is contoured and offers some ergonomic advantages, but for you to really feel comfortable, you must find the right size for you. For some, finding the right fit might be through trial and error. The SPACE Seating Professional chair may not be on top of the minds of those who are looking for the best Herman Miller Aeron alternatives. Yet, it still delivers. Overall, it’s a pretty decent chair that fits a tight budget.
Steelcase 3D Knit Think Chair is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing chairs out there. But, it’s not all looks. The Steelcase Think performs admirably across the board, with our judges giving it high marks. While it is not the most comfortable for long eight- to ten-hour days, the high level of flexibility in the armrests and the seat itself allows for some unique fit customization. Some people, but not all, find the robust lumbar support and general greater height agreeable. The Think is a terrific alternative at a mid-range price if you have a particularly curved back or need a chair that fosters good posture. It offers lumbar support that can be adjusted, a tilt stop, and firm cushions, but it falls short of several of the more expensive options in our test suite. However, it delivers amazing performance for the price. One disadvantage of buying it, however, is that it’s not easy to assemble, but overall, it’s a great Herman Miller Aeron alternative that can give a pop of color into your office, be it on-site or at home.
