The Best Xbox Games For Kids in 2022

Gaming has always been a kids’ hobby in general, but more and more titles are being made for adult audiences. Still, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any titles out there that are good for the young or the young at heart. Microsoft’s Xbox One might be the last gen, but there are still a lot of gems for your kids to enjoy. You just need to know where to look.

Finding the perfect game for them can be tough. There are just so many games out there to choose from. We’ve compiled a list of the best of the best when it comes to kids games on the Xbox One. Without further ado, here are some of the best Xbox games for kids.

01 Minecraft

Microsoft owns the rights to Minecraft now, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Xbox One is the best place to play this sandbox game. If you haven’t heard of Minecraft, then either you’ve been purposely avoiding the game or you’ve been living under a rock for the last decade. Minecraft is a sandbox game where your kids will be free to create whatever they want in the game. It can be played with others, but it’s also just as enjoyable when played offline. There are two primary modes in Minecraft, Creative and Survival. Each mode offers a different take on the game. One can be challenging, while the other is just loads of fun waiting for your kids to dive into. Let’s talk about each mode and how they fare.

Survival Mode is the main mode of Minecraft. In it, your kids are going to have to fight to beat the massive Ender Dragon while making sure that their health and hunger levels are always in good numbers. It’s a challenging game because this is Minecraft at its purest. It’s a good way to teach your kids more about the game and to help them tackle problems with more creativity. When playing Survival Mode, it might be best to guide your kids first so that they don’t get overwhelmed with all of the mechanics in the game.

Creative Mode on the other hand is all about having your kids drop into a world to create whatever it is they want to. In this mode of Minecraft, the only limit is their imagination. It’s a fun and leisurely mode that’s all about letting your kids let their creativity loose. You’ll be surprised at how well Creative Mode increases your kid’s abilities. It’s often the best mode to give to them as it’s simpler and more relaxed. Regardless of how your kids want to play the game, Minecraft features loads and loads of fun for everyone to enjoy. Minecraft still gets regular updates to this day, so there’s always new content to get into.

02 Minecraft Dungeons

From one Minecraft game, let’s move on to another. Since launching in 2020, Minecraft Dungeons has been one of the best spin-offs for the popular franchise. If your kids have grown tired of Minecraft, it’s worth giving this game a shot. To put it simply, Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler. Unlike the original game, your kids won’t be able to build in Minecraft Dungeons. Instead, they’ll have to create their own avatars which they’ll then take through various levels while fending off swarms and swarms of enemies. The art style, enemies, and everything about the game just screams Minecraft. Your kids are going to be familiar with the title if they’re already big fans of the original game. In Minecraft Dungeons, players will explore vast and expansive dungeons to save the land. The most enticing and engaging part of the game is the loot system. The more powerful the enemies your kids defeat, the better weapons and equipment they’ll get for their characters. The loop is very addictive, and it teaches your kids the value of patience and perseverance as they’ll have to fight monsters, again and again, to get stronger. The game can be played with others online, but it can also be played with others via local co-op. If you want to enjoy the game with your kids, feel free to do so as there’s loads of fun waiting in the game. What makes it such a great kid’s game is that it’s from a franchise that your kids are already familiar with. They’ll have a lot of fun enjoying Minecraft in new and exciting ways. This game is more challenging as well so that’s a good thing. One thing worth noting is that the game isn’t as replayable as Minecraft. Eventually, your kids might find the game tedious and repetitive. Offer them a better challenge by increasing the difficulty from time to time.

Pros

  • A new and fun take on Minecraft
  • Challenging for kids
  • Engaging loot system

Cons

  • Game can get repetitive at times

Specification

  • Price $20.10

03 New Super Lucky's Tale

Kids always respond positively to a good mascot. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Super Mario, Sonic – there are loads out there. It’s always good seeing some fresh faces from time to time, so you might want to introduce your kids to Lucky Swiftail. New Super Lucky’s Tale is an indie platformer. The game stars the cute and lovable Lucky, a fox that has all the makings of being the next video game sensation. The game’s story puts Lucky on a journey to help his sister get the Book of Ages from an evil cat wizard named Jinx. The premise is pretty simple, and it’s something kids of all ages are bound to love. The game plays similarly to other 3D platformers out there. Lucky will have to hop and dig his way around colorful worlds within the Book of Ages. Each world in the game is masterfully crafted and unique. Your kids are bound to have fun exploring each nook and cranny in the world to their heart’s content. Aside from amazing gameplay, the game will also offer loads of secrets and easter eggs for your kids to get into as they progress through the game. The game also features a light and humorous story. It’s like playing through a cartoon. The game is clearly designed for kids to enjoy. Our only problem with New Super Lucky’s Tale is that it’s a lot shorter than the other titles on this list. Thanks to the collectibles and secrets scattered around the world, however, it will be easier for your kids to play the game again and again without feeling any burnout.

Overall, New Super Lucky’s Tale is a fun title for your kids to enjoy. Despite its short gameplay, the game makes up for everything else with it superb visuals and addictive gameplay.

Pros

  • Amazing visuals
  • Fun and lovable lead character
  • Simple and easy gameplay

Cons

  • Short game time

Specification

  • Price $29.97
  • Product Dimensions 10 x 2 x 2.7 inches

04 Slime Rancher

One thing we know about kids is that they love slime. You might not allow them to play with it at home because it can get messy. A good way to give your kids the slime fix they need without having to make a mess out in your home is with a cute game titled Slime Rancher. In Slime Rancher, players assume the role of Beatrix LeBeau. She goes off into a space adventure to start her own farm in a place called the Far Far Range. She isn’t just farming regular crops, however. Instead, she wants to explore the vast corners of space with her trusty vacpac, so she can collect and tame slimes. Aside from collecting cute and cuddly slimes, your kids will also have a fun time gathering resources to build Beatrix’s ranch. Slime Rancher is a simple farming game that does have its own sets of challenges. However, it’s not something that your kids are going to have a tough time handling. As long as they have good resource management skills and perseverance, they can help Beatrix become a successful slime farmer. Best of all, the game features an addictive loop that’s hard to put down once players actually get into it. The game offers dozens of hours of content with an exploration system that’s both fun and rewarding. Of course, the main stars of the show are the slimes that your kids are going to collect. Without a doubt, they’ll have more than enough slimes to enjoy in this game. All slimes have their own unique traits and personalities, so capturing all of them is always going to be an enjoyable experience for your kids. With Slime Rancher 2 on the way, it’s good to go ahead and give your kids this game right now.

Our only gripe with the game is that it’s not as replayable as others would think. After getting all of the slimes, it’s hard thinking of other ways to enjoy the game aside from improving your farm.

Pros

  • Fun and relaxing simulation game
  • Game is filled with adorable slimes
  • Simple farming mechanic

Cons

  • No endgame content

Specification

  • Price $26.95
  • Product Dimensions 6.6 x 5.2 x 0.5 inches
  • Item Weight 2.7 Ounces

05 Spyro: Reignited Trilogy

The classics are still good, especially if you want to make your child experience the games that you enjoyed during your childhood. If you’re looking for a good kid’s game featuring a mascot that you love, then you might want to try the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy collection. Spyro is a popular character from the PlayStation. He’s a fire-breathing dragon that sets out on various quests to save the world. The game plays pretty much like any other platformer out there. Spyro can run, glide, and then breathe fire into his enemies. The game offers a lot of ways to complete puzzles and beat enemies. Overall, your kids are going to have to be resourceful if they want to succeed in this amazing trilogy. This special collection contains the first three Spyro games. In terms of value for your money, you can’t get a better deal than this. Each game lasts around 10 hours. Your kids are going to enjoy at least 50 hours’ worth of game time if they want to fully complete the game. It’s worth getting because it’s both fun and enjoyable. Though decades old, the three Spyro games have all been upgraded and remastered to fit the standards of today’s games. The graphics are amazing, and the physics are on point. The game doesn’t feel like a remaster at all. It’s a good way to bring your kids back to one of the earliest gaming mascots. If they love Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, then they might enjoy other games like the Crash Bandicoot collection as well. While it is great, Spyro doesn’t offer much after your kids collect all of the collectibles and finish all three games. Still, 50 hours worth of game time is a pretty long time.

Pros

  • Amazing visuals
  • Simple and addictive gameplay
  • Lots of challenges to do and collectibles to hoard

Cons

  • Limited replayability

Specification

  • Price $26.49
  • Product Dimensions 0.5 x 5.3 x 6.7 inches
  • Item Weight 2.4 ounces

06 Fortnite

If you want your kids to enjoy a new game that won’t cost you anything, then let them play Fornite instead. It’s a global sensation that all kids are into, and that’s for good reason. Fortnite is a battle royale, but it comes with seasonal events that feature new game modes from time to time. Your kids can play it on their own, but they can also hop into a game with their friends or some strangers online. If you want to keep your kids safe, make sure that you monitor who they play with as the game can be quite toxic, depending on who your kids play with. That’s the only danger of playing online these days. The goal of Fortnite is to be the last man standing. Players can use a variety of weapons to take out other players. They can also build various structures to defend themselves. The game requires a lot of strategy and coordination, so your kids are definitely going to be challenged when playing Fornite. That’s good as that means that the game can actually help teach them some new skills and valuable lessons. Another amazing thing about Fortnite is that there are constant collaborations with other franchises. Your kids might find some of the characters they love in the game. Currently, there’s Spider-Man, Venom, Naruto, and even Rick and Morty.

Pros

  • Free-to-play
  • Fun and challenging for your kids

Cons

  • Online community can be toxic

  • Price Free
  • Product Dimensions 0.5 x 5.3 x 6.7 inches
