Get $200 Worth of EA Games for $5 With the Humble Origin Bundle

It seems that with each iteration, the popular “Humble Bundles” (special sales promotions that offer collections of games, eBooks, or music at customer-determined prices) become decidedly less…well…humble. Although started as a way for small indie publishers to introduce their games to a wider audience, AAA titles from major publishers have slowly begun to find their place in the novel sales model. With the recent bundle, however, things become entirely mainstream.

The “Humble Origin Bundle,” as the latest entry is dubbed, features AAA games exclusively from Electronic Arts and its Origin gaming platform. None of the offered titles are new releases, but they are all big name releases that once sold for top dollar.

For a minimum purchase amount of $1.00, gamers get Dead Space, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crysis 2 Maximum Edition, Mirror’s Edge, Dead Space 3, and Medal of Honor. Customers who choose to pay more than the average selling price, which is about $4.75 at the time of this article’s publication, will also get Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3.

The current combined retail price for all of these games via the regular Origin Store is $199.92, making the bundle a fantastic deal, even for those who already own one or two of the included games.

Perhaps most impressive of all, however, is the precedent that EA has set in terms to the distribution of revenue. Traditional bundle deals require purchasers to split their payment between the content publisher, the group that organizes the bundles, and a charity. While customers usually have the option to allocate the entirety of their purchase price to just one of those options, EA has decided to make a gesture of good faith by removing itself from the list. That’s right, EA gets no revenue from its games sold through this bundle; purchasers can simply divvy their purchase price between a charity and the Humble Bundle group.

The inclusion of high profile games exclusively plus EA’s generous position on revenue has attracted a huge number of purchasers and delivered a windfall to the worthy charities involved in the program. As of the date of this article, and with 13 days to go before the promotion ends, nearly 740,000 bundles have been sold, generating over $3.5 million in revenue.

Those interested should check out the Humble Origin Bundle before the promotion ends. Purchasers will receive digital downloads of their games via codes eligible on Origin with a select few also available via Steam. Note that EA is currently experiencing issues with code redemption on the Origin Store, but those issues should be resolved shortly and won’t affect the validity of codes acquired as part of the bundle.
