How to Turn Off the Demo Loop on a Sony TV

The demo mode on Sony TVs is what you could refer to as the “retail mode”. It’s there for when the TV is sitting in the store, to allow the retailer to showcase the TVs capabilities as much as possible. However, in practical, day-to-day use, the demo mode is far from ideal. It’s limiting and hasn’t been designed for regular use.

Here’s how to turn off the demo mode on your Sony TV.

Which Model?

Unfortunately, turning off the demo mode on Sony TVs isn’t universal across the board. Depending on which model you have, the method for turning this mode off can differ. Fortunately, turning off the demo mode on Sony TVs is entirely possible.

Android Sony TV Models

Android Sony TV models may not be the best Sony has to offer, but they’re definitely among the most popular (if not the most popular). Here’s how to turn the demo mode off on Android Sony TVs.

First, press the Home button, found on your Sony remote. From the screen that pops up, select Settings. Under the Settings menu, go to Device Preferences, followed by Retail mode settings. Now, set the Picture reset mode and Demo mode settings to Off.

If your Android Sony TV model is version 8.0 or earlier, go to Retail mode settings. Here, you’ll be able to set the Picture rest mode and Demo mode settings to Off.

Grab your remote and press the Home button. This will take you to the Home screen. In the upper-right corner of the screen, you’ll find the Settings icon. Navigate to it. In the Settings menu, go to Preferences or System Settings, depending on your TV model. If you have a model that has the Preferences option, select the Shop-front Display Setting. Then, turn the Picture Reset Mode and Demo Mode off.

If your model has the System Settings option, go to Shop-front Display Setting directly.

Unfortunately, for all the above-quoted models, you won’t be able to turn the demo mode from the settings. A factory reset will be required here.

If your model allows you to go to the Home menu using the remote control, press the Home button on your remote, and go to Settings. Then, select System Settings, followed by Customer Support. Go to Factory Settings and confirm that you want to revert to the factory settings by selecting OK.

If your Sony TV model doesn’t allow you to go to the Home screen using the remote, you’re going to have to get your hands dirty.

Start by unplugging the power cord from the outlet – only don’t plug it back in immediately. Leave it unplugged for at least one minute. Then, plug the power cord back into the outlet. If the device doesn’t turn on automatically, do it yourself. Wait for about a minute for the TV to do the initial startup.

Then, press the Up Arrow button on the remote and hold it. While still holding the Up Arrow key, press the TV’s power button and release it. An indicator should appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Now, you can release the Up Arrow button. The setup screen should appear. Follow the onscreen instructions to set everything up.

Turning Off the Demo Mode

As you can see, depending on your Sony TV model and type, turning off the demo mode is performed differently. Still, this guide should about cover most if not all Sony TV models. If you can’t make it work on your Sony TV, contact Sony support or your retailer.
