How to Delete All Activity and Events on the Ring Doorbell

Ring Video Doorbell is an interactive camera device that puts the features of an intercom, a speaker, and a motion detector into a single affordable doorbell device. It uses your smartphone/tablet as its central hub and everything, from setting it up to accessing recorded videos and live footage, tweaking the settings, and using the two-way audio feature, is done through your portable device.

For your convenience, all activity and events on the Ring Video Doorbell are documented and accessible from the app at all times. Here’s how to delete all activity and events from it.

How It Works

The Ring Video Doorbell is connected to your wireless router from your smartphone. It then uses the Wi-Fi network to connect to a server that is also shared with the app on your own portable device.

Every Ring Video Doorbell device is equipped with a motion sensor feature that’s triggered whenever someone moves through the user-designated zone. Of course, sensitivity can be set, but every time the motion sensor is activated, a notification is sent to your phone. This goes the same for every time someone rings your Doorbell.

Additionally, every time a motion sensor is triggered or the ring button is pushed, recording is automatically activated for about fifteen seconds.

All of these notifications are documented and kept inside your Ring app, for future reference. This is called activity and events. Events are essentially the automatically recorded moments that are accessible through the timeline feature within the app itself.

Removing Notifications

The notifications that you receive on your portable device’s screen can be removed as can any other notifications that you receive on your phone. Just do the same thing you do with other notifications that you want to ignore or remove – and that’s it. Deleting the activity and events that pertain to the Ring Video Doorbell, however, are a bit different.

Deleting Activity and Events

Although monitoring the surroundings of your home for burglary prevention (burglars often scout homes before breaking in) is inherently smart, the motion sensor is often triggered by animals and people simply passing by. This creates an unnecessary clutter of activity notifications that are arranged by Ring, Motion, Video, and Starred. Although this does keep things tidy to an extent, once the activity entries pile up, you’ll want to remove them. Here’s how to delete the recent activity from the Ring app.

Go to the Events list and tap the circle next to an event that you want to delete. Notice that it turns into a checkmark, meaning that it’s been selected. Select all other events that you wish to delete and when you’re done, tap the trash can icon to delete them. If you want to completely clear your history, swipe right on the event list and tap Delete All. Then, select Delete in order to confirm, and Delete to confirm one more time. Note that event deletion is permanent. The events can’t be recovered.

Factory Reset

If, for whatever reason, you want to factory-reset your Ring device, make sure that you understand that everything will be deleted from it – events, activity, the whole nine yards. To perform a factory reset, open the Ring app, select the Ring Video Doorbell that you wish to factory-reset, navigate to the gear icon in the top-right corner of your phone’s screen, and tap REMOVE DEVICE. Now, confirm and the device will be removed. Connect it again, set it up, and you’ll get a factory-reset device.

Deleting All Activity and Events

Removing all of your activity and event history is entirely possible on every Ring device. Moreover, it’s fairly easy to do. Everything is done through the Ring app, so it’s even less complicated.

Have you tried clearing the activity and event history? Why did you have to factory-reset the device? Feel free to elaborate in the comments section below, and don’t refrain from asking any questions or adding any tips and advice.

I have a large number of videos, alarms and motions saved on my phone. How do you delete the large amount of data. I do not have the “events List” I have “History” when I go there and swipe right, nothing happens. HELP!
Brett says:
My events will not delete today on phone or pc , what the problem. I’ve been doing this for 4 months. Also you cannot swipe right on phone. I just talked with a customer service agent that did not even know what to do and disconnected chat. Great.
Joe says:
What is the “Events List”? I presumed that it was the same as “History,” but when I go there and swipe right, all I get is an ad trying to sell me a security system, which I don’t need.
van says:
Did you ever get an answer to this question? I only have a “history” list too and cannot find any “event list” to allow the deletion of all the events. Thanks, van
Ken says:
I love the ring alarm system, but I am gathering a large amount of videos, alarms and motions saved on my phone. How do you delete the large amount of data. I do not have the “events” choice, or cannot find it. Looking for your nelp.
Bruce Erny says:
I wish to delete all events in my phone. Your directions state to swipe the events list to the right. When I do that I get an ad for other products. The event list will not swipe to the left. I do not wish to delete 100’s of events one at a time. If I can not delete events this junk is going in the garbage.
Donna says:
My husband and I got new phones, and now there is no trash can to delete all the movements, what do you do? Why do you not get back to me when I have emailed you questions???
