For those that own an iPhone or iPad in iOS 10, you may want to know how to leave a group conversation on iOS 10. Group conversation chats are great ways to talk to a group of friends at the same time without having to have several threads open. But the negative part about group messages is that when your iPhone or iPad keeps getting messages overtime on iOS 10. Sometimes these group messages having nothing to do with you, and you want to know how to leave group conversation on iOS 10 for iPhone and iPad.

The good news is that there is two different ways you can leave group conversation messages or mute group chat for iPhone and iPad in iOS 10. The following is a guide on how to leave group iMessage chats and mute friends in iOS 10 on iPhone and iPad.

 

 

Leave a Group Conversation in Messages on iOS 10

For those iPhone and iPad users that never want to be part of the group conversation again. the best option would be to leave group chat entirely. The way you can do this is by opening the group conversation in iOS 10 and selecting “Details”, located at the top-right of the screen. When you select this, it will show a list of all chat participants, location settings, and a summary of all images, videos, and audio clips attached to the thread. Right above the attachments section you’ll see a button labeled in red titled Leave this Conversation. selecting it will have you removed from the group chat in Messages.

It’s important to note that using this feature will not allow you to join to group chat messages again and receive future messages from the group. Also, this method only works for group chats involving members using iMessage. A big group message involving both iMessage and SMS users will result in the Leave this Conversation button being grayed out, or not visible at all, depending on when the SMS users joined the

Mute a Group Conversation in Messages with Do Not Disturb

Some iPhone and iPad users don’t want to leave the group conversation because they may need to get messages from the group in the future. In this case, if your Apple ID or mobile number will be part of the conversation in the future you can always mute group chat with “Do Not Disturb.”

The way you can set “Do Not Disturb” is by gong for to (Messages > open the message you want to mute > Details). Then scroll down through the Details screen until you see Do Not Disturb. Select the button to turn it on and you’ll no longer receive sound, vibration, or Notification Center alerts for that particular group chat messages.

The best thing about the “Do Not Disturb” feature on messages is that using this method it works for all types of group chats, including iMessage-only, mixed iMessage and SMS, and exclusively SMS. Also, you can still go back and review the messages you missed, in case some important informationis eventually distributed.
