How To Turn Off Screen Overlay On Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9 Plus

We have had a lot of problems reported to us for the Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus, and a lot of them are all linked to the same cause. That being the screen overlay detected problem and this can be a pain but the good news is it’s fixable. This is being complained about time and time again with all users of the Galaxy devices but it’s not too difficult to repair.

We have noticed that the issue is normally there even from the beginning of the phone life. One of the ways to trigger the message is when you download and install a new app on your Samsung Device. If you opened the application for the first time the message will appear straight after you do the permission dialog.

If this is the first time you have seen the message then you will be wanting to help in resolving this. Below we have written an easy to use guide explaining how you can resolve this issue.

Screen Overlay

  • What the screen overlay feature does is display top running apps on your device. For example apps like facebook messenger will work as a screen overlay. This is not so much an error but more of a notification produced through the app itself.
  • If you do get the notification then you will manually need to approve permissions from the settings menu on your Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus.
  • On most apps, you won’t have a problem but if for whatever reason the app notification is a scam then it could trick you into accepting the permission for something you wouldn’t want to click on.
  • So a quick overview is that the screen overlay feature is a notification that will require your manual approval to allow an app to work properly. This feature will require your permission every time you install an app for the above reasons.

The new dialog box that opens will have a guide in allowing you to launch the setting menu and access the application manager from the application tab. When you are here you will have to hit MORE and tap the option that says App that can appear on top.

With the new menu just scroll down and navigate through the list. Find the app you want to toggle off. You can switch the permission setting to off and repeat the steps from the home screen. You’ll then be able to choose what apps can ask for permissions.
