How Do I Stop Messages From Showing On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus

Your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus is full of options. And for pretty much every single thing that happens on it, chances are you will receive a notification. With the stock text message app, for instance, one can get popup notifications that display a preview of the incoming message both on the Notification bar, from the top of the screen, and on the Lock Screen.

Receiving such a notification when you have an unread message may be useful. But if you’re trying to keep your sensitive information private, you should know that you have two different options at hand:

  • You can disable the popups and the previews for good;
  • Or you can simply disable the previews, choosing to continue receiving popup notifications, without any hint regarding the sender or the content.

As you can expect, both options apply to the Home and to the Lock Screens. Now let’s show you exactly what you need to do:

How to disable the text popups from Galaxy S8/S8 Plus

These popups we’re talking about refer to both a preview of the text and some details regarding who the message is from. Aside from this window that appears on the Home screen, there’s also the preview from the Notification bar, which works on the same principles.

At work or anywhere else, if you don’t want the people you’re with to be able to see who’s texting you, you are entitled to want to block both of these features. Once you do so, you will be the only one who can check the content of the messages. And even you will have to launch the Messages app for doing so.

To shut it all off, you will have to:

  1. Go to the Messages app;
  2. Tap on the MORE button located at the upper-right corner;
  3. Select Settings;
  4. Navigate to Notifications;
  5. Find the Pop-Up Display option and turn it off.

That’s how you get rid of the nasty popups. But remember we told you that you could still get notifications, only without previews? Before you leave these menus, look for another option labeled as “Preview Message”. Suffices to disable that one and you should be able to keep the popup notifications that will be accompanied by a general message, without any suggestions about the sender or the content.

How to control the Lock Screen messaging information on Galaxy S8/S8 Plus

Now that we’ve covered the problem of notifications when you’re using your phone, we need to tackle one last thing. The Lock Screen notifications are even more annoying because anyone can see it even with the display locked.

If you’re having privacy concerns about this one as well, again, you have the same two options as with the Home screen notifications – you can either turn off the preview or both the preview and the popup. Here are the instructions:

  1. Swipe down the Notification shade;
  2. Navigate to Settings;
  3. Access the Lockscreen & Security section;
  4. Scroll down until you find the option “Notifications on Lock Screen”;
  5. Tap on it and within the list of options that will extend, select to hide content if you want to get rid of the previews;
  6. If you want to get rid of the notifications, select “Do not show notifications”.

Now you can say that you can really protect yourself from the prying eyes. Whatever options you have chosen, you are in full control. Of course, you can always decide to get back to these Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus message preview options and make any adjustments you see fit.
