How To Fix White Screen In Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus Messages App

The white screen glitch of the messages app is periodically reported by various Samsung Galaxy S8 users. Looks like a simple bug and the fact that it often responds to clearing the app’s cache is another indicator that it is nothing serious.

Still, there are two problems with you keep seeing the white screen when trying to message on your phone:

  • It is annoying and certainly not the way an app should work;
  • If clearing the app cache isn’t working, the next step is factory reset…

Before you put any of these two fixes into practice, let’s recap and make sure you’re dealing with the same problem as the one we are talking about in here.

So, you are in the Messages app. You’ve been chatting for some time when you feel the need to insert an emoticon. You select the desired emoticon and hit the send button only to discover that everything turns white after that. You cannot see any other responses, not to mention whatever you’re trying to type from this moment on.

You normally turn off the application and restart it. You start typing only to experience the same problem soon after that. If that’s the case, proceed to the previously mentioned solutions. It should spare you from having to constantly terminate the app and interrupting your conversations so abruptly.

To clear the app’s cache and data…

  1. Go to the Home screen;
  2. Access the App menu;
  3. Tap on Settings;
  4. Tap on Backup & Reset;
  5. Tap on Factory Data Reset;
  6. Tap on Reset Device;
  7. Insert your PIN or password if you have the Lock Screen activated;
  8. Tap on Continue;
  9. Tap on Delete All and confirm the action.

To perform a factory reset…

This is a bit more complex and delicate. Complex because you have to access the Android Recovery mode and delicate because you could lose everything on your Samsung Galaxy S8, unless you take the time to create a solid backup in advance.

Use this guide on how to devices and pay close attention to all the initial steps that involve the backup. We are talking about all your photos and videos, all your contacts and messages, everything you value from your favorite smartphone could vanish if you don’t have a backup in place. So, proceed with caution and follow those steps one by one!
