How To Use Private Mode On Google Pixel And Pixel XL

It’s pretty common for people to keep photos, videos, or files on their phones that they don’t want everyone else in the world to see. Maybe they’re related to work. Maybe they’re sentimental. Maybe you just don’t want your nosy aunt to know every detail about your life. When you don’t want others to see what you have on your Google Pixel or Pixel XL, using Private Mode is a good way to do this without needing to download any third party apps.

The only way someone can view anything in Private Mode is with either an unlock pattern or password code. The following is a guide on how to set up Private Mode on your Pixel or Pixel XL.

How to enable Private Mode on Google Pixel or Pixel XL

  1. Using two fingers from the top of the screen, swipe down to find a list of options.
  2. From the list of options, select Private Mode.
  3. After you enter Private Mode for the first time, a quick walkthrough will be given and you’ll need to enter a PIN code. The PIN code will be required every time you enter Private Mode.

How to disable Private Mode on Google Pixel or Pixel XL

  1. Using two fingers from the top of the screen, swipe down to find a list of options.
  2. From the list of options, select Private Mode.
  3. Now the Pixel or Pixel XL should go back to normal mode.

How to add and remove files from Private Mode on the Pixel or Pixel XL
Private Mode supports several different media types, including photos and videos. Follow these steps to add supported files to Private Mode:

  1. Turn Private Mode on.
  2. Go to the photo or file that you want to hide and only make viewable in Private Mode.
  3. Select the file(s) and then select on the Overflow menu button in the upper right.
  4. Select Move to Private.

The instructions above will help you set up Private Mode on the Pixel or Pixel XL. It will also allow you to add those files to a private album or folder that is only viewable when in Private Mode.
