Can iPhone Batteries Be Replaced?
Battery troubles with your iPhone aren’t very common, but they do happen.

Can the batteries be replaced? Of course, they can. In fact, Apple has several different ways you can go about it. In this article, we’ll cover all the steps you need to take to get a new iPhone battery.
Replacing Your iPhone Battery – How It Works
If you need to replace the battery on your iPhone, the first thing you should check is if the phone is still covered by warranty. If you’re not sure about that, you can go to the AppleCare+ page and enter the serial number of your phone to check.
The good news is that if it’s still covered, your battery replacement will be free of charge. In case your phone isn’t covered by the warranty or even consumer law, you’ll still be able to get a replacement battery, but it will cost you.
For iPhone 11 models and newer, the replacement costs $69, and if the phone is older than that, it will set you back $49. There are two options when it comes to getting your iPhone to Apple.
You can send it in for the repair, or you can take it in yourself. In both cases, you need to make sure that you properly prepare your iPhone before you send it or bring along everything you need.
Before You Send in Your iPhone
Apple has a set of very specific steps you need to go through before you send them your device for battery replacement.
You might not be able to perform all of them if your phone is dead, but they advise you to try and complete as many as possible.
- If your iPhone is paired with other devices like Apple watch, make sure that you unpair them. Don’t worry, your phone will create a backup for your watch, and you can access it when the phone is returned.
- Also, remember to back up your iPhone data if possible.
- Turn off your iMessages by going to Settings>Messages.
- Disable the Activation Lock.
- You also need to reset your device. You’ll be asked for your passcode and Apple ID password. If you’re not able to do this on your phone, you can access the iCloud.
- Finally, don’t forget to remove the SIM card. And don’t send your phone with the protective case or any kind of cable.

Before You Bring in Your iPhone
If you prefer to take in the phone yourself, the first thing to do is make sure that you’re going to either an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service provider. And before you head out, make sure that you check as many items of this list as you can:
- Do your best to back up your iPhone. If it’s not responding, you can do it using the iCloud.
- Before you travel, make sure that you have the correct Apple ID password.
- If it’s possible, you should also bring the sales receipt. It might not be necessary, but sometimes Apple needs proof of sale.
- Don’t forget to bring the device, of course, and any accessories you might think you’ll need.
- You’ll also need an ID, driver’s license, passport, or other personal identification ID issued by the government.

Most of the time, all you need to do is wait a little while before you can take your phone home with its new battery. But in some cases, if they’re busy or the battery needs some extra work, you might have leave it and come back at a later date. Typically, it won’t take longer than 3-5 business days.
Important Note: If your iPhone has other damages that might make the battery’s replacement difficult or impossible, you’ll need to fix that first. This includes things like a cracked screen or any other types of superficial damage.
Keeping the iPhone Screen On
Having battery issues with your iPhone can be tedious, not to mention inconvenient. What if it stops working in the middle of a conversation? And what if your battery was full in the morning, but couldn’t make it after 2pm?
