How to get Live TV on Roku

Roku is the leader of home streaming devices.  Getting a Roku streaming device is an excellent way for you to cut the cord from cable and its substantial costs.  Also, Roku is known to have the most significant number of channels available among all streaming devices.

There are the usual streaming applications like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Sling that you could use on your Roku streaming device.  All these services offer a lot of viewing options at a reasonable price to you.  Much less than a cable subscription that’s a step beyond the basic service.  Then, there are quite a few options that allow you to continue to watch live TV for free as well.

We’re going to give you a list of some of our live TV choices.  So you can still watch live television without having a contract with a cable company.

Free Roku Live TV Channels

The CW

The CW channel application lets you watch any show you’d also be able to view with a regular basic cable subscription or television antennae. It’s free, and it’s available in the Roku Channel store.

Go to Streaming Channels on your Roku device then, scroll to top free.  You’ll find it on the list.  The best thing is you just install the CW channel and go.  You don’t need an account or password for this channel.

The ABC NEWS channel lets you catch up on the news with live streaming videos.  You can also watch the featured news, top stories, in-depth weather videos, business news, tech news, history, and lifestyle news.  Another great thing is that you can select local news and see what’s going on around your locale.

NewsON is a live news TV service that scans your location and lets you watch live news selected for your area.  It also allows you to choose news channels to view from other parts of the U.S.

Pluto TV

Pluto Tv allows you to watch live video streams that are gathered from the internet and organized into a cable-like channel.  It also offers a variety of other channels such as weather, Mystery Science Theatre 3000, cartoons, news, viral videos, and unique channels unavailable on regular tv and cable.

So, the list up to now has included free ways for you to watch live TV through your Roku streaming device.

If you’d like reliable live tv streaming that doesn’t change or discontinue content then, you may want to pay a little, but you’ll still pay much less than if you got a cable TV package.

Sling offers you TV packages starting at $20 a month.  Then, you can add other channel packs individually for about $5 to $10 more per selection.  You could also choose the $25 package where you pick all your channels a la carte.    If you want to give it a test run, you can try it free for a week.

Sling TV is quite affordable and offers many alternative options to watch live TV.  You’ll enjoy live TV as well as sports, if you like and movies.

I’ve found Hulu to be a very affordable and excellent way to stream live TV.  Hulu airs a live television series episode the day after they broadcast on the regular network.  So, whether you want to keep on top of the current season of Law and Order SVU and Chicago PD or catch up, it’s possible with Hulu.

Hulu starts at $7.99 a month with limited commercials while you watch or pay $11.99 a month to watch without ads.  With reasonable pricing and high-quality viewing Hulu is one you should consider for streaming Live TV and movies.  This is the most budget-friendly option to watch live television and everything in between.  Hulu gives you a lot of content.  You get your money worth and then some.

PlayStation Vue

The pricing for PlayStation Vue starts at $39.99 a month.  It’s not the most budget-friendly, but it’s a third option for paid Live TV channels on your Roku.  It’s a good option for those of you who also own a PlayStation 4 because you can watch on your Roku streaming device or your PS4.

PlayStation Vue gives you a free 5-day trial offer.  I would check that out before committing to it.  This paid channel option for live TV is for those of you cord cutters who seek a complete cable company replacement plan. It’s on the more expensive end of the spectrum but still seems like a better alternative to having a long-term contract or commitment to a cable provider.

Wrapping Up

There you go.  You’ve now got a selection of free and paid channels to add your Roku streaming device.  You can significantly decrease the costs of a cable bill while still watching everything you love.  Plus, you don’t get tied into having a contract.

Pay as you go.  Cancel and restart your streaming account services as needed.  The Roku channel store gives you a wide variety of channels, and you’re sure to find something you enjoy.

All our channel suggestions can be found in the Roku channels store and are worth taking the time to check out.

Did you lose your remote in the couch, in your bed somewhere, or around the house? No worries, we won’t judge. You can get a new remote that can act as a replacement while you find your old one!
