At a certain age, we all have had two or three smartphones being lost or being replaced for different reasons. There is one more frustrating occurrence that only iPhone users are familiar with and that is having a smartphone but being unable to access or use it. This usually happens when you lose your lock screen passcode.

Due to the heavy security features and systems installed on iPhone smartphones. It becomes quite impossible to access the device without the passcode. So what would you do if you got locked out of your iPhone 10 just a few days after purchasing it because you can’t remember the passcode? Most people would go for the password reset option of performing hard factory reset.

There is one risk involved with performing the hard factory reset especially for first time smartphone users and that is; it can erase all the information and data stored on your device. In this guide, we are going to review the three different ways of bypassing the screen lock passcode when locked out of your iPhone 10 smartphone.

We wouldn’t encourage you to proceed to reset your passcode if you haven’t yet backed up the data on your iPhone 10. This is because once you go to the reset option, you cannot salvage any data from your device.

The three options of resetting your iPhone 10 password are as outlined below;

  • There is an option to use the iTunes if you have already synced your iPhone 10 to iTunes
  • For those who haven’t synced with iTunes, you can use the iCloud Find My iPhone settings
  • Alternatively, you may opt for the third option and that is to use the Recovery Mode to reset your iPhone 10 lock screen password

Erase your iPhone 10 with iTunes

  1.   Power on your iPhone 10 and connect it to your PC
  2.   Launch iTunes and sign in using the valid passcode. Alternatively, you can use a different PC that you had already synced to iTunes with.
  3.   Once the iTunes finishes syncing, create a backup.
  4.   Click to Restore [your device] when the backup creation is complete.
  5.   As soon as the Set Up screen is displayed on your iPhone 10, tap on Restore from iTunes backup.
  6.   By keenly reviewing the dates and sizes of each backup created, you should be able to choose the most relevant backup.

Erase your iPhone 10 with iCloud

  1. Log in at iCloud.com/find using a different device.
  2. You will then be required to use your Apple ID to sign in.
  3. Select on All Devices from the bottom of your browser.
  4. Choose the specific device you would like to erase
  5. Tap to Erase to get rid of the device data and passcode
  6. Choose to restore from a backup or set up as new.

Note that to use this option to clear your iPhone 10 passcode, you will need an internet connection. You should therefore be connected to a strong Wi-Fi network or mobile internet data to be able to erase your iPhone 10 using Find My iPhone method.

Erase your iPhone 10 with recovery mode

The third option is for those who haven’t synced to iTunes and have not set up the iCloud Find My iPhone option is to use the Recovery Mode to reset their iPhone 10 passcode. You will be able to use the recovery Mode to reset the passcode as well as restore your iPhone 10.

  1.   Power on your iPhone 10
  2.   Connect to a PC using an iPhone USB cable
  3.   Launch iTunes
  4.    Once your iPhone 10 is connected to the PC, force restart it. To force start your iPhone 10, simultaneously press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button for about 10 seconds. Continue holding the two buttons even after the Apple logo appear until the Recovery Mode is displayed.
  5.   From the two options provided; Restore or Update, choose to Update. Let your iTunes do the iOS reinstallation without even erasing your iPhone 10 data.

To Note Before you Go to Factory Reset Apple iPhone 10

Resetting your iPhone 10 will definitely get rid of all the data you have stored to date. It is therefore crucial that you create a backup of your iPhone 10 so as to be able to access your data after everything is cleared on your device. You can backup your iPhone 10 from the Settings menu. Once there, all you need to do is choose the option to Backup and Reset.
