Virtualization Benchmark Showdown – Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox
iTunes Audio Encoding
To test audio encoding capabilities, which are generally single-threaded, we installed the latest version of iTunes for Windows (11.4) and ripped the full retail disc of Maroon 5’s latest album, V, to lossless wave files. Using a stopwatch, we then timed how long it took to encode all tracks to the default “iTunes Plus” format, which is 256kbps AAC. Results are reported in seconds, with shorter bars equating to faster performance.
Here again, we see very little difference between the three virtualization platforms, although this time Fusion 7 leads the way at 63 seconds, compared to VirtualBox at 65 seconds, and Parallels 10 at 67 seconds.
As we saw in the Cinebench single-core test, all three virtualization platforms seem to perform equally well in single-threaded tasks like iTunes audio encoding.
