How to Add Music to a Kindle Fire

Kindle Fire is very fun and versatile. You can do many things with it, including listening to your favorite songs, artists, and albums. There are multiple ways you can listen to music on a Kindle Fire.

Obviously, you can always buy tracks directly from Amazon using the Music Store. If you already have a nice playlist on your computer, you can transfer it to your Kindle Fire. Finally, you can upload music to your Amazon cloud account and play it from there.

Read on for a detailed guide through all of these methods.

How to Add Music from the Amazon Music Store

If you don’t have enough music stored on the cloud, or on your computer, you can always get some from Amazon. This can be particularly useful when your favorite artists drop a new single or album. You don’t need to wait, as their tracks are at your fingertips on your Kindle Fire. This is a very easy and quick way to get more music.

Follow these steps to add music on your Kindle Fire using the Music Store:

  1. Tap on the Music app on your Home screen. Music Store will launch shortly after.
  2. Browse for the music you like. You can search for specific genres, artists, or even look at the charts if you’re out of ideas.
  3. When you find a song you like, you can preview it and see if you like it. Select Play and you will hear an excerpt from the song. We recommend going on YouTube and listening to the whole song before buying it.
  4. If you like a song, tap on the price (orange) label and then select Buy (green). Follow the instructions on your screen to get the song.

How to Add Music from Your Computer

Most people have their favorite playlists and tracks stored on their computers. This method is also very easy, and it is maybe even better than the previous one. That’s because this won’t cost you anything. Follow these steps to transfer music from your computer to your Kindle Fire:

  1. Connect your Kindle Fire with your Mac or Windows PC using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Make sure your Kindle Fire is unlocked. The Kindle Fire will appear on your PC as a media device. If you have a Windows PC, click on Computer/This Computer. You can also use the File Explorer. Mac users should use the Finder. Locate the Kindle Fire’s Music folder on either device.
  3. Next, open the music folder on your computer. Select the music files or folders you want to transfer and drag them across to the Kindle Fire’s Music folder.
  4. When the transfer is complete, you can enjoy your music on the Kindle Fire. Simply, launch your Music app and your music will be waiting for you, ready to play.

How to Add Music to the Amazon Cloud

Finally, you can make use of the Amazon Cloud service. It is completely free, though you do need an active Amazon account. This method is rather easy, and its advantage is that it saves storage space on your computer and your Kindle Fire. Here is how to add music to the Amazon Cloud:

  1. Go to the Amazon Music website and log in to your Amazon account. Click on the Upload your music option to the left.
  2. Download and install the Amazon Music app on your PC.
  3. Open the Amazon Music app and click on Your Library at the top.
  4. Click on View the music on your computer in the top-left corner.
  5. Click on the desired album and Upload it. You can also do the same with individual songs, but it will take more time.
  6. After the songs or albums are uploaded, you will be able to listen to them on your Kindle Fire, using the Music app. To access your stash, click on the Cloud icon in the app.

Kindle Fire Supported Music File Formats

Many people forget about music formats and the capability of devices to play them. Kindle Fire has a limited pool of supported formats, so you should bear that in mind. The Kindle Fire supports MP3, MP4, MIDI, WAV, non-DRM AAC, AMR, and OGG audio file formats.

The Kindle Fire HD supports some additional music file formats, including the Dolby Digital (AC-3), the Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC-3), and the WAVE/PCM. If you have music files that are not supported, use an online file converter tool to transform them into mp3 and keep things simple.

Let There Be Music

Finally, you can enjoy some great tracks on your Kindle Fire. Most people use their computers as music storage devices, but that is unnecessary in this day and age. Everyone and everything is online, including music libraries.

The Amazon Cloud service is really great and you should try it out if you haven’t already. If you put your playlists on the cloud, you won’t have to transfer them from your PC to your Kindle Fire over and over again.

Trying to add music to the Amazon Cloud, but apparently it doesn’t work that way anymore(?). There is no “My Library”, only Library>Music or Library>Podcast. There is no “View music on your computer” on the page than I can see. Am I missing something? Thanks!
