How To Clear Cache On Huawei P9

There are some problems that can easily be fixed on the Android software, which the Huawei line of smartphones is based on. The best way to fix any bugs or software problems on the Huawei P9 is to either complete a factory reset or to clear the cache. The main reason to clear the cache on a Huawei P9 is when the smartphone is suffering from slowdown, delays, glitches, or freezes. The following is a guide on how to clear the Huawei P9 caches.

What is the cache and what does it do?

There are two different types of caches on the Huawei P9. The first is the app cache, while the other is system cache. Each app on the Huawei P9 has its own cache installed on the app. These individual caches allow for the apps’ temporary data to be stored for better efficiency when switching between apps. While the system cache on the Huawei P9 does a similar job, it stores temporary data for the Android software instead of each individual app. That’s why, when there are issues with apps crashing or freezing, it’s best to wipe the system cache to help fix this issue.

How to clear the app cache on the Huawei P9

For problems that are just happening with a specific app, it’s best to first try to clear the app cache. You can clear the app cache with these instructions:

  1. Turn on your Huawei P9.
  2. Go to Settings and then to the App Manager.
  3. Select the app you want to clear the cache for.
  4. After you’ve selected the app, look for the app info screen.
  5. Select Clear Cache.
  6. To clear the app cache for all apps, go to Settings and then to Storage.
  7. Select Cached Data to clear all app caches simultaneously.

NOTE: Don’t select Clear Data unless you want to lose all the information that app stores, like passwords, game progress, preferences, and settings.

What do you do when clearing the app cache doesn’t help?

After you have cleared the cache of individual apps and the Huawei P9 is still not behaving as it’s supposed to, the next best option is to uninstall the app and reboot the device. After rebooting the Huawei P9, if the problem is still persisting then it’s suggested that you perform a system cache wipe, also known as wiping the cache partition on the Huawei P9.

  1. Turn off the Huawei P9.
  2. Hold down the power button and the volume up button until you see the recovery menu.
  3. Use the volume down button to scroll down until Wipe Cache Partition is highlighted.
  4. Use the power button to select it.
  5. The menu will briefly disappear, but will reappear after a few seconds, once the cache wipe is completed.
  6. Confirm Reboot System now by pressing the power button.

If the problems persist, the next stage is to factory reset the Huawei P9. Just make sure you back up your phone before you do so if you don’t want to lose any data.
