How To Use Huawei P9 Tethering

Sometimes when you’re not at home, and want to have other devices connect to the Internet, the best option is to use the Huawei P9 tethering to allow these devices to get Internet access. Setting up the Huawei P9 as a mobile hotspot is also great for when there is a bad public Wifi connection.

The new battery life on the Huawei P9 is great for using the mobile tethering feature since the Huawei battery can last for hours.

To be able to use the Huawei P9 hotspot, you first need to set up tethering on the Huawei P9. This process is not hard to do and below we’ll explain how to use the tethering and how to change the security password on the Huawei P9.

 

How to turn the Huawei P9 into a tethering spot:

  1. Turn on the Huawei P9.
  2. Go to the Notification Settings, by swiping down on the Home screen.
  3. In the top right corner of the screen, select on Settings.
  4. Browse for Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot and select it.
  5. Then select on Mobile Hotspot.
  6. Change the On/Off toggle to On.
  7. Select OK on the Attention screen advising you that WiFi will be turned off.
  8. Follow the directions at the bottom of the screen to connect another device to your Huawei P9.

 

How to change the password and security type for tethering hotspot on the Huawei P9

It’s standard for the Huawei P9 to add a password to the mobile hotspot feature. It also defaults to WPA2 for security. Follow the steps below to change these settings:

  1. Turn on the Huawei P9.
  2. Go to the Notification Settings, by swiping down on the Home screen.
  3. In the top right corner of the screen, select on Settings.
  4. Browse for Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot and select it.
  5. Then select on Mobile Hotspot.
  6. Select on the three dots to view more options.
  7. Select Configure.
  8. Change the password and select Save.

 

It’s important to note that some data plans don’t offer mobile hotspot unless you upgrade to that service. After you have followed the instructions above and you see that Mobile Hotspot not working on the Huawei P9, then it’s recommended that you contact your wireless carrier to see if you can get a compatible data plan.
