VLC Media Player is a great alternative to Windows Media Player and Groove Music app in Windows 10. VLC has plenty of options for playing back video and audio(including Youtube!), and it also has additional plug-ins you can add to it. One of those is MiniLyrics that displays the lyrics for the songs playing in VLC. This is how you can display the lyrics in VLC with that plug-in.
First, save the MiniLyrics setup to Windows from this page. Press the Download MiniLyrics for Windows button there to save the setup. Then click MiniLyrics.exe to open the setup window.
You should select a full install for the plug-in. Click Next and then choose a path to install the plug-in to. Thereafter, you should select the Support VLC check box; and you can also enable the plug-in with Windows Media Player.
When you’ve finished the setup, open VLC Media Player. Click Tools > Preferences and All to show all the options. Then click Interface > Control Interfaces to open the options below.
There you can select the MiniLyrics – Auto display lyrics from current song check box. Then press the Save button on that window. When you’ve done that, close and reopen VLC. The MiniLyrics plugin window in the shot below will also open with the media player.
Click Media > Open File and choose a song to play in VLC. Then VLC will play the song and display its lyrics as shown in the snapshot below. The lyrics are also included within the MiniLyrics window. Click the windows on the taskbar to switch between them, but don’t minimize the MiniLyrics window as that will then minimize and remove the lyrics from the VLC window.
You can keep the lyrics on the VLC window with MiniLyrics minimized by selecting the Floating Lyrics option. Click View on the MiniLyrics window and select Floating Lyrics. That will display yellow floating text on the VLC window even when you’ve minimized MiniLyrics.
The MiniLyrics window includes skin customization options. Select Skins on the MiniLyrics menu bar to expand the menu below. Then you can choose an alternative skin from there.
To select some further options, click View > Preferences to open the window below. You can customize the lyric text colors and display style by clicking Themes and Lyrics Display. Then click the Highlight lyrics color box to choose an alternative color from there. Click the Vertical scrolling menu to select alternative display options for the text. For example, you could select Horizontal scrolling instead.
So now you can play back your fave songs and display their lyrics in VLC. It’s a great plug-in to have for some karaoke at the desktop!
