How To Watch Pay-Per-View (PPV) on the Amazon Fire TV Stick

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick is an extremely convenient streaming solution that gives you access to a huge array of content; all you need is a WiFi connection and a TV with an HDMI input. With access to movies, TV shows, and music channels right out of the box, and the ability to install apps for an even wider range of content, the Fire TV Stick can be the basis for a complete cut-the-cord no-cable solution. However, one thing that doesn’t stand out in the Fire TV Stick’s lineup is pay-per-view (PPV) programming.  It isn’t immediately obvious how to access it and getting there takes a bit of navigation. There are actually several different ways to access PPV content on your Fire TV Stick, some completely legitimate and some others slightly less so. In this article I’ll walk you through the various ways you can get PPV.

Purchase PPV Events through Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has in the past offered some UFC MMA bouts to US customers; in 2018 they offered a slate of MMA events beginning with UFC 222 in March 2018, featuring Cris Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya, Frankie Edgar vs. Brian Ortega, Sean O’Malley vs. Andre Soukhamthath, Stefan Struve vs. Andrei Arlovski, and Cat Zingano vs. Ketlen Vieira. The cost was significant at $64.99 per event for the HD stream, and $54.99 for standard definition. Those prices were competitive with other platforms.

In 2019, Amazon has not yet offered any UFC MMA events, and it seems like ESPN+ has an exclusive license for that content. However, Amazon has the infrastructure and the user base to offer events like this in the future, so you should check with Amazon Prime Video to see if an upcoming event is something they will offer.

There is a UFC app for the Amazon Fire TV Stick too but it should be noted that the app gets very bad reviews and appears to have serious performance and reliability problems. It offers access to lots of UFC content as well as the PPV elements and supporting media., but doesn’t seem to be doing a great job delivering it.

Use Kodi to Access PPV Events

Kodi is a terrific media center, although it’s installation routines can be a little maddening. (Tap here to load this repository, then go back and install the add-in from the zip file, then tap your head three times and say “Kodi is awesome”, then…) The platform gets a lot of bad press because, while legal in and of itself, Kodi can be used to access illegal content. but that’s a personal choice for the user. If you haven’t yet installed Kodi on you Fire TV Stick, I highly recommend it: this tutorial will walk you through the whole process of installing Kodi’s Leia build onto your Stick.

Once installed, you have a number of different avenues to get access to PPV events. You can install the UFC app on Kodi directly and pay the normal price per event. You can also use Sling TV, ESPN or other channel or app through Kodi to achieve the same goal. Again, you will have to pay but these channels are legal and will offer the whole event with warmup fights and all.

That brings us to the “less legitimate” way of doing things. Kodi offers a number of add-ons that give you access to PPV content without you having to pay for it. If you decide to go this route, it is very important that you install and use a VPN on your Fire TV Stick, as otherwise you are likely to get in serious trouble with your ISP (or worse).

Some of the popular PPV-featuring add-ons for Kodi include FightTube (repository link) and Maverick TV (link).
